Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to...

Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to remember. Shuttleworth houses a unique flying collection showcasing the first one hundred years of flight. Illustrating the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s, you will see how the aeroplane operated in the pioneering years, was rapidly developed during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 30s and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. You can see fascinating examples ofaircraft ranging from the 1909 Bleriot XI to Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Sea Hurricane.

Then you can explore one of England's most delightful (and unknown) historic gardens, the Swiss Garden, created in the 19th century, when an interest in ornamental gardening and picturesque architecture first came together.

The Shuttleworth Visitor Centre is a great place to pick up some fantastic gifts, or just relax with a cup of tea and a spot of lunch in the restaurant overlooking the airfield.

I grew up close to the airfield and spent my childhood watching the planes from the Shuttleworth collection fly overhead. As a longtime visitor I can highly recommend the museum and fly days to you, family and friends who I have taken have also really enjoyed seeing history in action. The flying days and air shows and especially the Flying... More

I visited the Shuttleworth collection on a grey, wet day - it was great that all the hangars led on from one another so we didn't have to battle the elements! I found the displays to be really informative and I learnt so much whilst there. I will definitely come back for one of their event days. Only downside is... More

We went in March, no planes were flying and the gardens weren't at their best, but the six hangars are really good. Mostly WW1 planes, with lovely examples of nearly everything that has ever flown. The labelling is clear, the exhibits are such that everyone can get a good look, and it is amazing how time flies when you are... More

This collection just outside the village of Old Warden is a day out for all enthusiasts. There are several hangars and restoration work is on going and can be viewed by visitors. There are several eventing days throughout the summer, most include flying 2nd world war planes. There is a cafe and souvenir shop and plenty of room for children... More

An excellent day out for children and adults alike Even if your interest is not particularly old aeroplanes and cars this museum is packed with interesting exhibits and information. There is a retaurant on site, a shop and a brilliant childrens playground. There is also an opportunity to visit the beautiful Swiss Garden. If you are lucky there may also... More

This is a great collection of models aeroplanes cars and much more over several hangers it's a good wet day activity for children. The cafe is very good with daily hot meals and the nearby adventure playground is the place to tire the children out

Fascinating collection of mostly still airworthy vintage aircraft. We spent a couple of hours wandering through the various halls, some of which contain cars and motorcycles too (didn't bother with the garden, not in February) and didn't get at all bored. Obviously it would be even better to visit on a flying day, but that's not an option at this... More

A really nice little show with enthusiastic exhibitors and suppliers showing off their wares in a small hangar. Held in February the same year, it could be warmer outside the Shuttleworth Collection's 6 hangars than inside. At least the gift shop and cafe is warm😜

A wonderful place to go for a family day out and if youre like me bought up within the RAF then you'll know what I mean by the 'Naafi'! A wonderful and clean eating area to relax after looking at all the amazing planes.
