About
Run by volunteers, the gallery is beautiful and has some sublime pieces of work it will only take 5-10 minutes to look round but is located in a beautiful town right on a beautiful beach and seafront and is more than worth seeing whilst you enjoy the rest of the beauty of Sheringham which this only adds to! We would like to open from 12 noon to 4 pm daily, but owing to the retirement of some of our previous volunteers following the Covid shutdowns and unexpected illnesses at present, closures will be far more frequent than we would like until more volunteers come forward.

Can't understand why anybody would want to glue together sea shells into ugly arrangements. I just didn't "get it".

It is well worth popping into this small museum, there are some amazing things to see, we were just passing and popped in for 10 mins, although you could spend longer in there if you have the time

We do not live far from Sheringham and have often walked past the Gallery saying 'We must visit some day'.
This week, we did - and what a wonder it is.
Peter Coke was an actor and a playwright and an antique dealer, related to the 'Cokes of Norfolk'; he for some years was Paul Temple in the BBC radio series.
Coke discovered a love of 'shell art' - pictures or models made from shells and the gallery (in a converted fisherman's shed in a side street in Sheringham) is run on a volunteer and charitable basis by the Sheringham Society.
The exhibits are astounding - not least as they were all the work of the one man.
Entry is free and donations are requested. Opening times are limited to summer months, so check the website if you wish to go.

We loved this Shell Collection such a magical place. Our grandaughters were enchanted with the wonderful creations that the talented Peter Coke had made. The colours and structures were unbelievable. We had to drag ourselves away. Thank you for making this visit possible.

Fascinating exhibition of shellcraft which apparently started as a Victorian craft. Peter Coke, the artist (who was also an actor and playwright) made all of the items on display. He created these very original, beautiful shell displays up until his 90s. His working space has been recreated in a little room, and contains the shells, equipment and his apron and chair, as it was when he died, which is quite poignant.
There is also a selection of very pretty shells to buy. Delightful and helpful lady selling these. The gallery is run by volunteers and is free entry, so it's good to give a donation to help running costs.

This place has to be seen , It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but until you see what someone can do with shells you can't believe some of it is possible ? You can be in and out in Ten mins or you might just get caught up with the whole shell thing and be an hour , either way take a look , you will be fascinated !

A lovely way to spend half an hour browsing with old and young alike. My parents loved the skill and beauty of these displays created over a long period and now displayed beautifully in a lovely converted fishermans shed right by the beach.

We went with very low expectations and came out very impressed indeed.
You need to check that it is going to be open as it is completely run by volunteers but it was excellent and really very interesting.
It is only one large room but you will be amazed at the structures that have been built out of shells.
Shells and odd bits are for sale and only donations need to be offered.
Highly recommended as a 30 minute rest from eating ice cream etc etc .

We frequently visit Sheringham but had never found this little gem before. We were astonished to see the beautiful shell works of art and all free of charge (we did spot a donation box). Simply delightful.
