A walk with Pooh! Please note as previous reviewers have mentioned - you can’t really play Pooh sticks as the stream it’s too shallow (late October) and clogged with branches and other Pooh sticks- it’s a small bridge. There are few to no signs to point out the Pooh related doors etc, luckily there were lots of local friendly dog walkers who helped us find them! What signs there were there instructed us that no picnics were allowed or out of bounds (private property). A lot more could be made of this place. Many trees have also been cutdown near the entrance, not sure why. Oh and on a wet and windy day the small car park was totally packed! So mixed feelings...I can see why lots of people are disappointed.

I understand that you don't want it being too commercial, but there is nothing there other than a bridge and an A4 piece of paper that says "Pooh Bridge". It feels odd going to all that trouble having Pooh Car Park and Pooh Bridge but having nothing there. The 10-15 min walk from the car park, the only thing you see is Owls house in the trees. Not marked or sign posted and could easily be missed. Then you walk around the corner and see a wooden bridge. That's it. I fail to see where the magic is. Again, I'm not expecting Disney lights or music etc. but baring in mind it's importance to the story and lore, you'd think it could be made to feel a little special. Maybe wooden statues or a photo opportunity or a plaque with a bit of information on it.
We drove an hour to see some of the Winnie the Pooh sites in the area as I loved it as a child and my daughter is at an age where she is beginning to watch it and knows all the characters. She had no clue what this was other than a bridge. She enjoyed throwing sticks off the bridge, but does so at every bridge she sees on a walk.
The plus side is that the car park is free and there is a coffee van there, all nicely decorated in Pooh Bear stickers and signs. At least they made an effort.

To reach the bridge you need to park in a small car park and then walk down a hardcore path for about a mile to reach the bridge. The return trip is uphill although there are seats at regular intervals which were well used by visitors.
Most car parks in Ashdown forest are fee paying but this car park is free.
The bridge itself is as pictured in the winnie the pooh books and everyone who visits plays pooh sticks so the stream downstream has lots of them in evidence in the stream.
The walk itself is delightful though an old english forest and if you look carefully on the way then you will see some items from the stories such as owls house.
Its a good free activity especially for children and pooh lovers.

Let's face it, you are only going to visit it if you've read about Winnie the Pooh. If you've got small children it shouldn't disappoint but get some twigs long before you get to the bridge. From the car park it's a wide gravelled path downhill and the path can get muddy but the path from the Hartfield side can get very muddy. Even in poor weather it can be busy, and you can't picnic or really stray from the path that much.
You'd think it would have a descriptive plaque or something ...

If you're of a certain age, this location will have fond memories of childhood stories. A slightly more than demanding walk due to weeks of rain, take wellies, it's very very muddy and wet. It was lovely just to sit by the river, and wonder all about the stories of Pooh bear, and how he came to be with all his friends. Nice walk to nostalgia, but for the realist who might not get it, this is just a wooden bridge over a stream, but add Winnie the Pooh, and you have the hundred acer wood, tiger, roo, piglet, owl, and adventure. Worth a visit just to say you've been.

We parked at Poohsticks car park and walked down the gravel path to the bottom & saw lots on the way. Collected sticks on the way to play Poohsticks on the bridge. Walk back we sat & rested at each bench as was needed and I read some AA Milne poems. Beautiful dry warm day. So lucky to have visited.

Disappointing! Just a complete missed opportunity to make this place magical for children. I don’t understand it because we’ve been to other Winnie the Pooh inspired places including Disney and birthday parties, and those are leaps and bounds better than the place where it all started…..?
First, there are no signs to lead you to the car parks. You have to look on the map at the Center and hunt down the Pooh car park (roads are tights, very windy, and the car park signs are small and hard to read). Then once you find it and park, it’s impossible to find the path leading to the bridge. The little map that we took a photo of only confused us more. We even found others asking each other where to go including a lost old man who was unsure where to go.
The Pooh friend houses are not marked, so if you want to find them (especially Eeyores house), go online and find an enthusiasts blog or YouTube video, otherwise, you’ll miss it. I don’t know if Piglets house is there or if we missed it. It was just frustrating to travel so far, only to feel abandoned in our cause to see everything Pooh related for the littles.
The bridge itself is nice, but there are no benches nearby. I found that odd since there were benches on the trail, but near the iconic bridge, it’s just a bridge with wet lands surrounding it. It’s beautiful, but it would have been a perfect spot to relax.
The other locations at different car parks were a challenge to find as well that we just gave up.
We realized after leaving the forest that only Pooh redeeming spot would have been Pooh’s Corner, but we missed our chance to go bc they had already closed—5pm. Apparently, they have Pooh honey, Piglet tea, and other memorabilia’s which I think would have definitely saved our day of utter disappointment.
We just felt more could have been done. Like a ‘Hundred Acre Map’ with the Pooh Bridge and friend houses marked. A few signs with a bit of a back story from the stores and quotes. Something more of a tribute in the actual forest where it all started.
In the end, we felt the general public don’t care about Winnie the Pooh and resent the tourists that do come for a visit.

We visited with 4 children all under 5 and they loved playing Pooh sticks and hunting for the homes of their favourite characters. The only downside was explaining why all the characters where out when the kids knocked on the door. It was a great way of bringing the books to life!

My boyfriend and I came to pooh sticks bridge on a very hot day. The car park was about a 20 minute walk to the bridge which we didn’t mind as we really wanted to see the bridge. The walk was difficult as it was extremely hot but we thought it would be worth it. When we got to the bridge we thought “Is this it”? We were expecting more. There wasn’t flowing water as it was so hot therefore we couldn’t play poohsticks. If it wasn’t so hot we would’ve had a walk around the forest a bit more. Pooh sticks bridge is what it is really. Just a bridge however I am glad we went there as it’s a Winnie the Pooh landmark !

We visited Pooh corner and the famous bridge nearly 30 years ago.
My wife who is Winnie the Pooh bonkers was excited and happy we visited again as we were in the area.
It was a dead heat in the pooh sticks game.
It's worth taking your own sticks, as we did if you want to play the game.
Overall it's worth a visit
