Full on fun for the kids lots to see with so much history from the 1600 hundreds .I would advise anyone interested in seeing this attraction to go this year as the site may be sold. Only minus take your own food as the restaurant is very slow we waited 30 mins at half term

Hi John, thanks for taking the time to write. As you say, the site is under threat although if the planning appeal goes through it will not completetly close, just downsize but it will never be sold. We have new caterers in the cafe so hopefully the service will improve as they get up to speed. We will definitely be... More

We went to a day specially for children. There were arts and craft activities related to rockets and space missions as well as other displays. The lab demonstrations were outstanding (Professor Nitrate) - informative, fun and funny. This is well worth a visit.

Saturday afternoon visit 3 adults, at end of school half term. Was not terribly busy, but after paying for entry we found that we were unable to access certain areas e.g. Wildlife tower, green hut, and the film area was closed for a private function. Although the premises closed at 5pm, the cafe was closed by 4.15. Would have complained... More

Thanks for reviewing your visit, we apologise that the Wildlife Tower was not open, it should have been unlocked and we have passed this on to the duty manager. The green hut was refurbished by the Friends of The Mills, a voluntary group of ex scientists and not by the Mills management and there are not always enough Friends available... More

Having never been before, we visited today after seeing an advert for Professor Nitrates Science Lab. What can I say?! Brilliant lab. Professor N entertained the children so well and eve dealt with the cheeky ones brilliantly. Would totally recommend to everyone

This is a good effort by a charitable foundation (partially funded by the MoD and Heritage Lottery Funding) to restore a historic explosives factory site. The site is still in places quite derelict but the areas opened to the public have interesting exhibitions exploring the 300 year history of munitions and explosives manufacture on the site from its origins in... Thanks for taking the time to write your review. As you point out, we are a charitable foundation run by a small staff and lots of volunteers. Thew "Prof" will be most upset that you doubt his name ;-) More

We took our grandsons 6and 8 , and they had a terrific time. Professor Nitrate was hilarious and informative, they enjoyed the rocket making and launching...overseen by a very helpful Tianna. We ate in the cafe, which was busy, but the food was good and not too extortionate. The boys found lots to do, and we spent over four hours... More

Had a great trip here with my kids and my niece and nephew. Lots to see and do for all ages and the largely volunteer staff were so friendly and helpful. Visit quickly while you have a chance - apparently they are planning to allow this historic site to be redeveloped into a PGL site.

My friend and I took our boys here for the day - ages 9,9 and 10. There's no high-tech gadgets or rides but it's still good fun for the kids. The science shows were really entertaining- Professor Nitrate is a genius , keeping kids and grown-ups enthralled. There is an outdoor play area which on a dry day like today... More

I have taken the kids here on a couple of occasions (school holidays) and they always have something interesting going on. Mainly scientific based around fireworks and rockets, due to its history but, the museum is well laid out and tells the story well, with hands on things to try. They have a large car park and picnic points in... More

Thanks for your review Jackie, we are happy that you had a good day out, As you say, without your support we will find it hard to carry on, the costs of running such a large site with so many listed buildings is horrendous. More
