Situated on the waterside at the heart of The Quays, The Lowry is a stunning, award winning building housing two vibrant theatres, a studio space, relaxing art galleries, cafés, bars, a restaurant, souvenir gift shop and Salford’s Tourist Information Centre. With a huge variety of performances, The Lowry's Lyric and Quays Theatres offer a wealth of fabulous entertainment, including West End musicals, the very best in drama, live bands, famous comedians, plus world class dance and opera.Gallery entry is free and you can enjoy the work of one of the nation's favourite artists, LS Lowry, in changing exhibitions of his work which we hope will offer some surprises. At the same time, experience work by artists of local, national and international renown to compliment our Lowry exhibitions. There's always something new and refreshing to see in our galleries. With family fun throughout the building, guided tours, the Meet Mr Lowry film, plus participatory activity for all ages, The Lowry is a great day out.

Until a couple of years ago, I had never even heard about L.S. Lowry, but since I "discovered" him via English friends, I have been very facinated by his works. Visiting this wonderful, modern gallery right in the area where he was born and lived, is an amazing experience. His paintings are very characteristic and fascinating and you will understand... The Lowry is not 'just another art gallery'- to use a cliche,it's an experience. The setting, the building, the layout-each would make a visit memorable. I have been several times and always there is something new: personally,to see one of the many primary school classes 'at work',spread all over the gallery floors,is amazing! Not least, the staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. Give it... More

I'm old enough to remember L S Lowry's death and I've always been fascinated by his paintings that look so simple. Before this visit to this gallery I didn't know anything about his life and background. The gallery is well laid out and the 20 minute film about Lowry at the start helped me place his paintings into the context... More

Built to rejuvenate the dock area of Salford and to be a place for all of the community to enjoy, this venue has built a new extension to its bar and restaurant at the expense of disabled access, The drop offf point which it advertises was crammed with illegally parked cars with no chance at all of anyone being able... A striking architectural statement in its own right, and an emotionally rich celebration of Lowry's life and work.

Our second visit to the Quays Theatre, good seats on the stalls tier, There is refurbishment work in progress on a new restaurant but it is being well managed and is not intrusive, Bar service was ok with a selection of draught beer, bottles and the usual spirits, surprisingly though, no ice!. Did hear a couple complaining about the stool... More
