The gardens at Houghton Lodge are Grade II* listed, and surround an enchanting and unique example of an 18th Century "Cottage Orné". A haven of peace above the tranquil beauty of the River Test with both informal and formal gardens. Chalk Cob walls enclose a traditional Kitchen Garden with espaliers, themed herb garden, wildflowers and a wonderful Orchid House which include many rare varieties. In early summer the fragrant peonies line the stunning Rose Arbour path leading to hidden corners of the garden. The herbaceous border has year long beauty, bursting with bulbs in the spring, a tapestry of colour in the summer, and dahlias to brighten your heart in the autumn. Enjoy over 15 acres of meadows and walks along the picturesque River Test and meet resident Alpacas, Tom, Dick and Harry and a snorting Topiary "Dragon" Enjoy specialist coffees, teas, light lunches and homemade cakes in Daisy's of Houghton Tea House and art exhibitions in The Orangery.

Had hoped to visit Lodge but it did not appear to be open. The gardens are nice, but beware the map they give you its not to any scale and very misleading, we kept seeing lost and confused visitors. Enjoyed the water meadows and the...More

A very tranquil and calming setting, the gardens are cottagey and not too formal so you can relate to them. While I was there a team of gardeners were deadheading and weeding and they were a very jolly bunch! Lovely walks down to the river...More

We stopped here to visit because it was en route to Hillier's Gardens. There is a nice cafe, very well kept loos. The gardens were pretty and in the lovely Test valley but not spectacular or very extensive. An hour or two is the most...More

After a disappointing lunch in Stockbridge we decided to drive home on the B road and take in the countryside. It was one of those days when the sun shone and the colours of the fields and trees were beautiful. We were lucky to come...More

These gardens are a bit "under the radar" as we've lived in Hampshire for years and only just found out about them. We visited on a rather cloudy August Sunday and were pleasantly surprised by the peaceful, atmosphere away from the crowds. The café was...More

No need to book, just turn up and you can even use the café without paying to go round the gardens (however you will be missing a treat if you do)… Easy to find, plenty of parking space available and don’t be put off by...More

First visit to this tearoom and it won't be the last. What a wonderful place! We ate in an enormous and splendid conservatory overlooking the spectacular garden. The food was great - bacon roll and salad, and the coffee delicious. The afternoon teas being served...More
