Well having been brought up in the area until 1967 I was never aware of this site until my husband started mentioning it So when he kept on about it during our recent visit my aunt took us there and fairly early in the walk it grabbed my attention. We were encouraged to buy an Overseas Visitor Pass for 9... More

Wonderful stroll through the site, and quite good audio guide provided. Would recommend to Roman history lovers, ad there is really not all that much to see at the site itself, and having a decent understanding of Roman history is essential.

If everyone had to declare a favourite castle on their passport this would be mine! On the face of it there's not a lot to see but if you take the option of the free headphones/guide you will get a lot of interesting information that brings it all to life. Again, I cannot recommend annual membership enough - over the... More

This is the location of the Roman invasion engineered by Emperor Claudius. The framework of the fort, and some of the original fortifications, have been excavated, and walking through the ruins is like a walk back in time. The information boards are very helpful, and there is a small but interesting museum at the entrance. I had a chance to... More

We wandered around this ruined English Heritage site in the sunshine. Most of the external walls and the defensive ditches still stand along with the foundations of some of the buildings. There are boards with good descriptions what it must have been like living or working there nearly 2000 years ago but the site is really for Roman history enthusiasts... More

We stopped off here on our way to Deal. Typical excavated site of Roman ruins with information boards here and there. Nothing much to set it apart from other sites, but interesting nonetheless and a pleasant way to pass half an hour.

Visited with my wife and grandsons. My wife has no interest in history but she loved the setting. One grandson is only 8 months so he was unimpressed. The other one is nearly 6 and was interested because it was Roman. He liked the audio guide. As we are English Heritage members we did not have to pay. For a... More

Interesting English Heritage site for its simple connection-with-the Romans thing and especially if you happen to be passionate about sections of large flinty walls that have survived 2000 years or so. There is a modest visitor centre / shop. Good parking and easy general access. I

What a wonderful place,to be able to see what remains of the old Roman port is amazing.English Heritage and the staff at the fort do a great job keeping this place frozen in time for all to see. A great place to come and see history while taking a slow relaxing walk around the grounds. My one bit of advice... More

This is a lovely spot to take a walk to and stop for a picnic. It has wonderful views and is a a great place to watch the sunset with a glass of wine and good company.
