Old fashioned cinema

If you want to get away from the expensive over hyped multi plex cinemas then this is the place. Great value and like going back in time.

Warm, welcoming and unusual because it cares about it's customers. Almost always manages to get the latest films very quickly. Good size, good acoustics and quite [!] comfortable seats. Run by people who love films and cinema. Sometimes too hot [ for me ] and sometimes has an interval at a strange point in the film. Also always has "children's... More

Love going here watching all the adverts and then being able to get a cuppa ect; before the film starts really enjoyed every visit and will go again.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this cinema and many more like it... however it is really spoiled by the endless noise from plastic bags rustling all the way through the film. Why can't cinemas encourage customers to empty their sweets into ... say paper 'coffee like' cups to stop the annoying rustling of all the bags containing sweets... More

A small, beautiful, period building, that still manages to function as a very viable cinema, a real blast from the past feeling! Only downsides if you are not able bodied are the stairs, and its a bit tight in leg room deoartment if you are tall. Having said that, I would still recommend giving it's try, if you haven't already.

The little cinema in Sandwich is a blast from the past. A proper old fashioned cinema, friendly and helpful staff, cheap entry and small packets of sweets instead those ridiculous large buckets of popcorn etc that cost an arm and a leg. I highly recommend for family or friends and in a pretty old town too 😊

Two children and a rainy day in Sandwich...head to the cinema! Beautiful retro building, lovely charming staff and fabulous comfy seats! Concessions don't cost a fortune and at £5 a ticket for the matinee performance it's a winner all round! Like stepping back in time! Really enjoyed ourselves!

Sandwich is lucky to have this Art Deco cinema ,which also includes many live performances from Royal Opera House amongst others. Easy booking via phone, low costs , comfy , plenty leg room , easy parking . Kind friendly staff. Wish this was in deal as well.

Regular visitor at this cinema. It is a time warp run by enthusistic volunteers & trustees. The Empire has the right name as it is little changed from the days of Empire. Usually costs just £5 to get in and reminds me of childhood trips to the flicks in the 50s. Try It.

Small intimate old cinema with a lovely admosphere. Well worth a visit. You can even get a cup of tea during the break. If a popular film is being shown you need to reserve a seat so as not to be disappointed. Prices are reasonable and you get a nice welcome. There are quite a few stairs to get into... More
