We visited simply because it had started to rain and there isn't much to do in Ashby town centre. We didn't expect much and to be honest we didn't get much apart from a load of hassle from the two pensioners manning the desk. Firstly we got a five minute lecture from the guy behind the counter. We politely tried... More

I live in Ashby and took a friend to the brilliant Ashby Museum last week. We were both fascinated by the current special exhibition showing the story of the 1st WW prisoner Lieutenant Gunther Pluschow of the Imperial German Navy who escaped from Donington Hall. The exhibition includes interpretive boards, a film show and an accompanying free booklet. All presented... More

Started at the museum which was really informative and set the time and history for a visit to the castle. Much more to see and learn than we thought. Will go again.

I happened to be in Leicestershire and in the are of Ashby de la Zouch and decided to make a stop this site. Is the remnants ruins of a castle. Though there's to much there, it was enough to get the feel for it. How it was during the 15th-17th century. I have been to many castles and museums in... More

I took a twenty something visitor from Holland and we loved it. It is so varied and fascinating. I had not expected though to find my old house details from the 1960s in one of the large ledger/scrap books. I would have stayed much longer but my parking ticket was expiring! If you have ever owned a house in Ashby... More

A tiny-but-sweet 3-room museum telling the long history of the Ashby and North West Leicestershire-South Derbyshire area, it's a wonderful little addition to an Ashby visit - essentially its a medalroom, a gift shop and a history room, but dont let the size fool you - there's a lot aboit this fantastic market town you didnt know!

When in Ashby it should be on your list of things to do ; after the Castle but before Wetherspoons and the charity shops. A good local museum, and you might find out why the town has such a posh name.

Yes, the Museum is small but is everything a local museum should be - packed with local interest and artefacts. I always like coming out of a museum having learnt something new; in this case it was the life of the parachute pioneer, Dolly Shepherd - who was parachuting before women got the vote!!

This is a wonderfully compact museum, with a wealth of local information, supported by dedicated and very knowledgeable Friends. Displays, collections and research rooms are well provided and stocked. The Museum hosts regular visits and lectures from the local Universities, and assists with on-going excavations. The Museum is located very convenient to the Town Centre, and has the local excellent... More
