Not much remains of this old castle (thanks to the Victorian's !!) but what there is left is more than enough to fire the imagination. Sited on the wonderful River Tweed and adjacent to the railway bridge (a sight in itself), it is well worth a visit to try and imagine all the life that went on here over the... More

The remains of Berwick upon Tweed Castle are central to the complex and fascinating history of this border town. Once there was a vital medieval Castle at the heart of Anglo- Saxon warfare. You will find the Castle and ramparts adjacent to the town's railway station and exploring this site can be part of a much lengthier walk around the... More

The ruins are worth seeing underneath in all its glory and beauty. The castle is near the railway bridge and tommy the millers.

A pleasant and engaging walk to visit what little remains of a once impressive feature of the area. If you like a walk, research the history and enjoy the view.

Worth the walk as the riverside and bridges are nice to see, The Castle is little more than a small ruin, but you can imagine how it once would have dominated this corner of the the Tweed

Real shame this relic hasn't been as well maintained as it perhaps could have been. I'd wager it was a dominant landmark in eons gone by but now it's essentially a ruin tucked behind the railway station. Pity!

This castle walk can take up to 2 hours to cover, as you find youself stopping and talking in the various attractions on route. Great for the kids, but they must stay on the path in parts as there are long drops that are dangerous - Enjoyed it though

As a family we spent a fair bit of time in Berwick upon Tweed. Walking around the walls and the castle. Incredible views of the area. Really well presented with information boards, well worth doing and we all enjoyed it.

Such a shame that this iconic castle so important in the history of Berwick and it's changing fortunes between English and Scottish possession has been ignored and has become an unloved ruin

We visited the castle ruins (no charge) as part of a one hour circular riverside walk. The walk can be started at various points throughout the town and is well signposted. It can even be started as soon as you step off the train! Whilst it's true that the castle is far from the most spectacular that you can see... More
