After visiting other National Trust estates in the area (Montacute House and Barrington Court), Lytes Cary Manor was a little disappointing. The grounds and gardens were interesting, but unfortunately we found the inside of the house far too dark. Whilst we understand that old furniture...More

an excellent place to visit. lots of interesting plants in the gardens and fascinating interior, with clear information in each room. Helpful guides in most of the rooms. two places to buy refreshments and lots of spaces to sit and enjoy the views.

We found the house rather dull - although obviously it has architectural merit - although the guide book listing the various things one can see was helpful. We had visited mainly for the gradens but found them unimpressive and not looking particularly well loved. The...More

The house is small (one Wing being off-limits as a holiday let), has some interest but it is gloomy and everything can be seen in about half an hour, none of which is exceptional. However we had really come for the gardens. NT says that...More

This is a small medieval Manor house that was extended in the 1500's and then again in the early 20th century. It was unoccupied for 150 years before being bought and lovingly restored at the beginning of the 20th century. It was left, fully furnished...More

A special NT house with beautiful rooms, mediaeval, restored at the beginning of the C20th and then generously given to the NT. . . Lovely gardens too.

This is one of the better National Trust properties particularly with its Arts and Craft Garden. It is ideal for walks and the house is both impressive and homely. Make sure you don’t miss the exquisite little chapel which was probably the highlight of the...More

Yes they had benches in the picnic area. Some people were sitting on blankets in the fields adjacent to the picnic area. I didn’t see any bins, for rubbish. We took ours home.
