About
A fascinating site that gives you a real chance to get to grips with the steam technology that drove the Industrial Revolution. Four large beam engines, nearly 30 other steam engines, large steam driven workshop where you can “have a go”. Only 1/4 mile from A38 Burton North junction. Brown signs from junction but not on A38. DE13 0DA.

This is a brilliant experience. Easy to find, good parking available and a tearoom. I did the tour, which took an hour and a half. The guys are all volunteers and they know everything. It was great to go round and have it all explained. Plus it is all free, but there is a donation box in the tearoom. I was most impressed that there were young lads about who were keen to volunteer and get involved and go on to get jobs in engineering etc. The building is a piece of brilliant Victorian engineering. Awesome.

My first visit today to Claymills but certainly not the last. What a great friendly crowd knowledgeable polite helpful and the work they have done and continue to do is simply amazing. All the machinery in steam in all its glory. There was even a bit of a classic car show and BSA Motorcycle on display. Well done to all concerned and keep up the good work. Thank you all for a lovely day.

A fantastic morning spent at a unique place. We had a detailed personal tour of the site from a volunteer, who explained the engineering and all the restoration that had been done in a clear and interesting way. The old guys on the site have got so much back to working order, and are still at it - amazing Victorian engineering and architecture.
We were there when the engines weren't steaming - I'm sure it is impressive at those times, but still well worth going when not steaming, as you can get close to everything and still have an enjoyable time.

Fantastic place to explore and go back in time. The workshop was just as interesting as the pumping house . Everyone was engaging which made it more interesting. Thank you for making it an enjoyable time .

Walked along the road from town, easy to find the station.
We were guided around by Andy P who was very informative and certainly knew the site. After the tour walked around ourselves and had a natter with one of the chaps in the machine shop. We said we had walked along the road, he gave us directions to walk along the canal back to town, more pleasant. We will go again when there is a steaming day.

Attended another of their steaming events on 26 February, 2022.
Excellent in every respect! Wonderful GIANT Victorian engineering - 1865.
There are 5 Lancashire boilers (two in use) and 4 beam engines (two in full use that day, and a 3rd a bit poorly...).
The volunteers were all excellent - from the ladies on the gate and in the small snack bar, to the guys feeding the boilers and those starting/running the beam engines ; ALL approachable, friendly and very knowledgeable - a credit to the charity.
We were there for about 3 hrs - and going on one of the guided tours (for the first time) was well worthwhile.
Will be going again - but only on a steaming day!

Great site. Lots of interesting stuff to see. In addition to the four massive beam engines there is a large number of small ancillary steam engines and steam powered machinery.
