Very lovely place, and very polite staff! I forgot to bring the birthday cake and candles we were going to do for my sisters birthday, the staff were so good and put some candles in her ice cream pudding and she loved it, probably more than the cake she would have had haha! Very tasty meal, really enjoyed my experience!!

Nice pub by the canal

Nice pub and restaurant in scenic setting by the canal. Try to come here a few times in the summer, a good patio area next to the water. Food is good not bad prices, friendly staff.

Very good food
Aug. 2019 • Family
Visited here twice this month- one for Sunday lunch and second time Saturday lunch.
Sunday’s menu is quite limited if your not there for a roast . Food is very good as is service .
However on the Saturday even though it was quiet felt rushed as they were bringing mains out as some were still eating starters and not clearing all the table before placi g the mains down so space on table was quite limited for a short time.
I like to have at least 5/10 min break between starter and main and I’m sure most would so maybe they could think about this, but great staff and service and good , reasonably priced food. Will defiantly go back

Sunday Dinner
Jul. 2019 • Family
So, went for Sunday dinner, the place is clean and decorated nicely. It wasn't busy and we were there at 1.00pm, dinner came out really quickly and served by lovely waiting staff.

Roast beef was slightly red and tased great. Enough food, roast potatoes and gravy. Very tasty and was scoffed up really quickly!

It's slightly more expensive than going down to a Toby carvery, but worth the extra pennies for tasty food, nice atmosphere and good service.

Followed up by a lovely fruit crumble - that came within the Sunday lunch price, quids in there! I snuffled up the crumble like someone who hadn't seen food for a month... only looked up once it was gone to the amazment of the family i was with! So very tasty and just enough....

I thoroughly recommend coming here!

Absolutely appalling
Jun. 2019 • Friends
We visited as a group of ten to celebrate our anniversary. We booked well in advance but on the day there were apparently 3 large parties. We were warned it would be slow but 1 & half hours for the mains. Then they came out 2 at a time!! With 5 mins between. Not acceptable!!

A good Steakhouse

A good place to dine with a varied menu and leasant surroundings next to the Basingstoke Canal. Very good service always with a smile. The website booking system is not to be trusted so a phone call to book would be advisable.

Disgraceful

Went to Potters for lunch with my wife on the well-publicised hottest day of the year so far. Ordered drinks and asked the barman if somebody could come out and put up the sun shade at our table outside. I was surprised to be told that ‘the man with the key is not here’. When I asked when he would be here I was met with a shrug of the shoulders, and the observation ‘if you don’t like the sun you should stay inside!’ Needless to say, my wife and I did not stay for lunch! Why is it that restaurants in the uk just cannot cope with sunshine? And did the man with the key ever turn up.... and does Bob Potter know or care what goes on in his name?

Good spacious and friendly pub/restaurant

We had visited the adjacent canal and the Potters looked more appetising then the canal cafe.

Very pleased with the selection of food and drinks and would certainly recommend it to those in the area.

Underwhelming

Not overly impressed with my stay. Although the member of staff who booked us in was friendly and professional and the separate restaurant and bar were both very smart, the lodge room was very underwhelming.

The walls of the room (including the bathroom) appeared dirty with finger/ hand marks across them throughout. I discovered what appeared to be a blood stain on my sheets and the also noticed cobwebs and hairs acrpss the walls suggesting the room is not cleaned very thproughly. The furniture in the room was dated but functional and the bathroom was incredibly basic but mostly functional. The toilet seat was loose and I was disappointed to find there was no hand soap. I travel with shower gel and, thankfully, hand sanitiser, but I've never had to bring my own soap before. The room included a kettle and tea/ coffee making facilities but I would have gladly done without this in the place of soap! There was also no Wi-Fi and my signal was poor so even internet access via data was difficult meaning I couldn't work during the evening. I found the bed comfortable although the pillows were so cheap and soft that I may as well had just done without. You can hear the traffic of the main road from the room but this didn't disturb me (something to think about if you are a light sleeper).

We ate in the separate restaurant and i was very impressed wiry the service abd decor, it's a real shame the same effort diesnt appear to have been made with the lodges.
