Like many National Trust gardens Nymans is a well oiled machine and visitors are funnelled in, around the gardens and back through the cafe area and shopping area. This does not mean that it is not a pleasant experience. The large car-park is close to the entrance where you are individually greeted and encouraged to join. You are also provided... More

Been NT member for 40+ yrs and this is the 1st visit & only 35mins from home! Lovely gardens with part ruined house due to fire in 1947. Large estate which will require a dedicated visit rather than our stop off from a w/end down the coast. Nice café plus shop & garden centre area. Lots of car parking. Semi-resident... More

Nymans is an extensive and particular garden surrounding a lovely, partially ruined house. The house was originally a Victorian abode but the Messels changed it to resemble a mediaeval manor house. Unfortunately much of the new parts of the house were destroyed in a fire;some year later. What remains was still quite livable and so descendants of the original owner... More

although there weren't that many flowers in bloom owing to the time of year, the gardens are still worth a visit. We had a chat with the artist in residence who was really good. However we felt the plaques dotted around the garden added nothing to the experience. After a lovely walk round we were ready for a drink and... More

As a house and garden this place is hard to fault. Not massive, but truly beautiful and lovely views towards the South Downs too. Stunning house. The café is nice and well run too. Minor detractor is some traffic noise from the side of the garden closer to the road, but this is being really picky. Tip: on a sunny... More

Visited Nymans a few years ago and this was a return visit. Gardens are beautiful this time of year, with the rhododendrons just starting to bloom. House is interesting with quizzes for the children to spot things as they go around. lovely day out

Our visit was OK during which we joined a tour of the site with a 'tree-hugging' lady. The tour was supposed to be an hour but was almost two hours, with lots of standing around. Wouldn't have done it if we had known and perhaps should have just walked off. Learn from my mistake! There were odd plaques everywhere that... More

Nymans is the most beautiful and romantic garden I've ever been to. Much bigger than I thought it would be. Takes at least 2 hours to see it all. Best time to go is May to see the Rhodedrons, Azaleas, Wisteria - all stunningly beautiful. Although I have been other months and it's beautiful every time I've been as different... More

I love visiting National Trust properties, but I felt that Nymans was expensive for a few rooms in the house (which were roped off so you could only look in) & a fairly small, although well maintained garden. It only took a couple of hours to look around.
