Only open in the afternoon so nearly missed it but so glad we went back. The cottage was owned by the estate and housed one of the workers. The contents have all been donated,a lot given by the people of Petworth. The staff there were...More

This estate house has been returned to its original state and shows what life was like for Mrs Cummings. As it is an old house, there isn’t a lot of space but it’s certainly packed with artefacts such as washing dolly and mangle that shows...More

A glimps into the past. Small, but lovely and very well preserved. It's worth a visit after a trip around Petworth house.

Visited this house/museum after a trip around Petworth House. Good to see how Mrs Cummings lived over 100 years ago. Do think children should see how the 'ordinary people' lived all those years ago. No mobile phones and /or computer games - one just got...More

A wonderful blast from the past. The cottage is just like your Great-grandma's (or Grandma's if you're a silver surfer!). Cellar and 3 floors of this tiny cottage furnished with the original artefacts of the seamstress who lived here. Lovely cottage garden too. It only...More

It's worth going here just to se real working gaslights, giving a gentle warm light. The range usually lit too but thankfully not on the baking hot day that we went to visit. The guides are great - really knowledgeable and obviously love the place...More

I'm not sure this qualifies as a museum. There are no collections of fossils or Etruscan pottery, nothing valuable or beautiful. It is an ordinary house full of ordinary household objects, but it offers a rare opportunity to step back in time. To 1910, to...More

Authentic residence based on life in a town where most residents work for landowner. Worth a visit. The garden is also spectacular.
