I wasn't sure that I would like Platypus House because it is an enclosure, not a natural environment for the animal. Still, I was eager to see a real live platypus and they were here. Also there are echnidas, cute little hedgehog like creatures that walk freely about in a large space where you can walk, too. We saw them... More

We recently visited Platypus House with a 8, 6 and 2 year old. The short film was about 15 minutes about the studies of Platypus in Tasmania as fascinating as I found it I think it went a little bit too long for the kids. They did, however love the animal viewing. The very knowledgeable guide fed the platypus wild... More

Tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly but the tour was a bit short for what you pay. The echidna feeding was very good.

The enthusiastic staff make a visit to this attraction a real must do! To see these wonderful animals in very natural surroundings and seeing them fed is really amazing. Smaller than I imagined. The echidnas waddling round our feet and seeing how furrier the Tasmanian ones are was a real treat. The shop is really good with some quality items.

Overpriced but very interesting. A movie, which we missed, shows (we presume) aspects of the life of the platypus and echidnas. There are several aquariums in which platypuses are swimming. A guide explains the indiosyncracies of these very weird animals. Echidnas wander around on the floor of another room, in which you can stand while they poke around your feet... More

As it is next to Seahorse World it made sense to visit while in the neighbourhood. And well worth the visit. They start with a short film of a study being done on the platypus then some background of the animal. Then we saw one in a glass tank which allowed us to get a good idea of their underwater... The platypuses are so cute and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her charges. The echidnas were very interactive and fun to get close to. We purchased a triple pass for Seahorse World, Platypus House and Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre. I'd recommend doing those two first in the day as they have timed tours and the... More

This is great place to get up quite close to this unique animal. There is ample information available for the serious enquirer... and the visit is, overall very entertaining- even for children. There are not may places where it is possible to observe this animal at such close range ... so very worthwhile.

So glad I dragged my partner to this, it was so cute to see echidnas up close and personal, they literally walk right next to your feet. I found the tour guide to be very informative and she knew a lot of information. The exhibits are also very well done and quite spacious. Definitely a must see and would gladly... More

Was left a bit disappointed with this especially after leaving seahorse world which was across the ways. Its best to get the pass 3 event pass so you can do seahorse world, platypus world and beaconsfield mine site tour
