We did a day crossing to Melbourne with no reserved seat and returned on a night crossing with a cabin. On the day crossing the ship was very crowded and you could not leave your seat for fear of losing it. There were no spare seats anywhere. Noisy bored children and some adults not much better. It was a real... More

We tried the ferry as a night trip to Tasmania and as a day trip on the return. We both concluded that the night trip and the use of a cabin was the way to go. The crew were helpful and professional and the facilities on board are good. You do pay higher prices for everything, but this is a... More

Overall the trip was brilliant. Super friendly staff. Good food and facilities. I do not recommend the recliners. They are not comfortable. Spend the extra and get a shared cabin unless you do not want much sleep. Also no shower facilities for recliner passengers. The room is noisy, chairs vibrate with engines lighting was too bright. Only use on a... More

Our first experience on the Spirit of Tasmania. We did the overnight trip from Melbourne to Devonport, and the day sailing back from Devonport to Melbourne. We booked a cabin each way - well worth it, it is nice to be able to lie down and put your feet up. The beds are small and narrow but fine. Sheets and... More

After having been on the Spirit a couple of times, after the relatively recent renovations done within the cruise ships, the entire business has changed. Staff are more friendly, providing better customer service, the sailing is smoother and the general experience is just fantastic! Decked out with new on-board facilities and eateries the trip is wonderful.

Spirit is to be the only way to visit Tassie by car. We did the overnight sail. We enjoyed a nice buffet dinner in a restaurant with a sea view. Then an evening drink in one of the bars. We slept well in a private 4-berth cabin with a bathroom. In the morning a nice voice woke us up and... More

Definitely will travel on Spirit of Tasmania again. We decided to take our car on our holiday to Tasmania. We travelled there and back on the Spirit of Tasmania and was most impressed. The process of getting our car on and off was brilliant and the boat itself is very good. We did night crossings and thoroughly enjoyed it. The... More

To be fair, you can't control the weather and the night we sailed was terrible! Huge sea swells across Bass Straight, the overnight 'recliner' situation was a disaster (our fault as we should've booked a cabin instead) and overall not a pleasant experience. We were up all night (and no, we didn't sleep in the recliner section as that was... More

The Spirit is always an enjoyable experience. It has recently been refurbished and has a lot more comfortable seating plus 2 theatres.
