- Sacha PMelbourne, Australia43 contributionsGreat experience, highly recommendedWe like a good cave and those at Mole Creek are very impressive caves! Did both the King Solomon and Marakoopa cave tours and they are both quite different each with their own interesting features. We had great guides on both tours who were very enthusiastic. Highly recommend you do both tours if you have time in the area.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 28, 2023
- warreng999413 contributionsA must do even if you don’t like confined spaces.Good fun. The glow worms were amazing as was the cave. Bring a jacket no matter what time of year you go. We only did the Marakoopa Cave and the 12pm tour. We only had 2 other people with us which was nice. I’d suggest this time as the 10am tour was packed. Even if you are claustrophobic you can do this tour.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 16, 2024
- Allisson ESydney, Australia110 contributionsUnique experienceFantastic experience. We did the Marakoopa Glow worm tour and also the King Solomon tour which were both excellent. They do offer a different experience so would recommend both if you have the time. Guides were wonderful on both tours, friendly, informative and allowed plenty of time for photos.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 7, 2024
- SydneyTraveller470 contributionsAmazing experience - a must do!There are 2 caves: king Solomon and Marakoopa. There’s one tour of Solomon caves and 2 different tours of marakoopa - the upper and lower. We did the underground rivers marakoopa cave and the king Solomon cave. I’d recommend both. Both were amazing and both the guides were fantastic and made it really interesting even for my teenagers. The king Solomon cave tour was more about the cave itself and the beautiful structures in the cave and learning about the history of the cave. The maracoopa cave was also beautiful, but was more about the glow worms which were fascinating to see and learn about. I can’t remember the name of our first guide, but I think the second one was Dave and he’d been doing the tour for 20 years and had funny personal anecdotes about his experiences in the caves. The office was also very helpful because our flight to Tassie was delayed so we were going to miss our tour booking time, and they let us delay it by a couple of hours to later that day. Just a note that you can’t take photos in the glow worm section of the cave because it could negatively impact the glow worms.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 17, 2024

This was actually very interesting but I downgraded it a bit because of the moral lecture. Fascinating place to spend an hour or so inside and see some incredible sights but I would have liked to know more about the caves themselve rather than the moral lecture about the things we've done wrong and cross referencing to the Aboriginal people.
A maximum of eight people can be taken at a time and some of the turns you have to do are a little tight but it's still worth seeing

We have been to many caves before, but the King Solomon caves still impressed. Fantastic guide, full of enthusiasm and kept the crowd amused. Definitely worth doing even with. I glow worms.
Sadly, I can’t comment on the other caves as they were closed due to flooding when we visited. However, the very friendly Ranger pointed us in the right direction and we are pleased she did. If you can, take the package tour to see both.

We went to Marakoopa Cave as King Solomon was closed. Recommend you book ahead as that is how we found out it was closed and the group that went after us looked quite full.
We did both the tours at Marakoopa we booked them straight after each other. Our tour guide Gayle was fabulous. She was so passionate about the caves and no question was too much. We had two children in our first tour and she was so good with them letting them know of the ‘magical’ things. She was amazing.
We did the underground tour first and went and collected more people for the Cathedral tour and set off straight away. We redid a little bit at the start but Gayle gave us some different information and the cave is so beautiful it did not matter anyway.
If you have knee problems etc the underground tour is the best for you as the Cathedral did have a fair few stairs but if you are somewhat fit you will be perfectly fine it is not hard going.

Worth the drive to see this hidden gem. You may have to wait for a tour as numbers are restricted due covid but we did visit on a Sunday.
Ticket office staff so friendly and informative and then we had Gail as a guide who was more than amazing and so knowledgeable and passionate about her job. Please tell the guides if you have any concerns about going in the cave they will support and inform you and keep checking on welfare.
Safety was number one for them and the showing you an amazing experience.

Fantastic caves to visit. We did 2 of the tours and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The tour guide we had (apologies I cant remember the name) was great, she was a natural and full of lots of information. The caves themselves are spectacular and just awe inspiring and then to see the glow worms too (there were lots there on our visit) was just magical. Its cool in the caves, constant temperature regardless of whats happening outside, and can be a bit drippy in places, so jumper/jacket a must. Each tour is about 45mins or so minutes long but you dont even notice the time. One of the tours does have a lot of stairs (which you are aware of when doing your booking)

My wife and I visited the caves and enjoyed the two tours we did. Our guide, Ranger Shannon, was friendly and engaging and had plenty of interesting things to tell us about the caves.
Being an older visitor, and with a bit of a bung knee, I was a little unsure how I would go with the hundreds of stairs to be negotiated on the was in and out - but found them to be in good condition and easy enough to traverse.
We failed to book ahead so were not able to visit King Solomons cave at a suitable time that day so will be sure to go back one day to see it as well.

The tour made for an interesting change to walks through the beautiful countryside of Tassie. The caves are well set up and our tour guide was clearly well-informed and passionate about the caves. Great experience for all the family

We really enjoyed our cave tour with Sue. All of the staff were incredibly helpful from booking to tour staff. Easy location to find, and the drive through to the caves was really scenic and picturesque.
The walk to the caves itself was a gentle incline and suitable for all levels of fitness. There are a number of stairs which you walk up in the caves themselves and a moderate level of fitness is probably required as well as the ability to bend and weave through some more narrower areas.
The tour itself was really informative and we loved hearing about how the caves were found and how they have since been protected for generations to come.
A really great experience.

Well worth a trip to the caves! We did the underground rivers and glow worms tour as well as King Solomons Cave tour. The guides were full of knowledge and happy to spend as much time answering questions. We'll definitely be back to do the Cathedral tour we missed.

I intend to bring my mum who's 82, she walks slowly and too many steps might be a little much for her. Is the mole creek tour suitable for seniors like her?

Is there any day tour offered to Mole Creek caves from Launceston, including transport there and back?

How long should I allow to stop at the mole creek caves? Hoping to do a marakoopa cave tour
Written February 4, 2018
The tour is around 45 mins- 1 hour so allow yourselves an hour and a half - 2 hours to look around. You also have to take into account the time you may be waiting for your tour to begin and the walk from the ticket office to the cave location.

I only have time to see one cave with glow worms, either Gunns plains or mole creek. Which one is better?
Written December 22, 2016
The one near Mole Creek is beautiful, lots of things to do around the area too. Call ahead to confirm whether they're open.
the guided tour itself was about 1 hour long, buy your ticket at the on site office, leave your car there, then walk to the entrance and wait for the guide.

Hello, I would like to join a combined Cradle Mountain and Mole Creek tour departing from Launceston, can someone help? Right now I can only find Cradle Mountain tours but not a combined one. Many thanks!
Written February 16, 2016
Hi. I doubt you will get one tour that does both as they are about 90 kms apart and either one from Launceston would be a full day. But try contacting a tour organiser in Launceston rather than looking on line as they may offer purpose built tours.

How long would it take to do the 3 caves? What is the difference between the 3? Are they close together or apart? I have 4 energetic children 17 - 23 - if had only time for 2 which ones?
Written July 20, 2015
I would allow about 45 mins per cave tour, as this does depend on the number of people in each group with larger groups taking a bit longer to negotiate the areas in the cave; this is because of making sure everyone moves safely, stays together and can see the sights properly. The two Marakoopa cave tours are on basically the same site and the distance between King Solomon's Cave and Marakoopa is about 12 kilometers so it doesn't take long to get from one to the other. They are quite different. Marakoopa caves are more open and easy to walk through, with specific features such as glow worms and running underground rivers, but King Solomon's is in a lovely bush setting and striking in appearance within the cave. King Solomon's is quite narrow in places however, and could be difficult for people of larger build to negotiate. If time is a real issue you could see more at the Marakoopa site in a shorter time, but if you can travel, the contrast between the two is interesting. They are all beautiful in their own way so whichever you choose, I think you will enjoy it.

Hi Everyone,
I would like to do a cave tour but budget would allow me only ONE tour. Which of the 3 tours below is the BEST?
1. Marakoopa caves Underground Rivers and Glow Worms
2. Marakoopa caves Great Cathedral and Glow Worms
3. King Solomons Cave
Many thanks,

Hello,
If you have a good camera, (not a phone) but a good DSLR set it to' candle' or ultra low light, and bump up the ISO for the Mole Creek caves where discreet lighting shows the formations to their magical best.
Written July 15, 2015
Hello all, I'm trying to work out my timing for our trip. How much time should I allocate for Mole Creek if we are planning to see both caves? The wildlife park is probably not for us, but we might do a walk or two. Thanks for your help. :)
Written February 17, 2015
I think the tour was about an hour. did not look at the second cave. you may need to check times as there was no one there when we got there and had to wait about an hour.
worth the wait though
