AWESOME 1/2 day trip we booked the upgrade cabin and it didn't disappoint. From the time you board you have something to drink or eat in front of you I was so full. The views are amazing. Stopping to find some gold without luck mind you was a real treat. The only bit I didn't enjoy was the commentary, she... More

There is nothing like being on steam train trip, add to that an interesting rain forest, history, a track that clings to the side of a mountain, and a steady supply of tasty food and drink. The result is a wonderful day out. The ticket cost is great value for the experience you get, highly recommended.

From the minute we picked tickets up professional all the way. We did the full day nearly 9 hours and the time just fleur past thanks to Tom who was so informative and entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Did the tour of Queenstown with the delightful Charlee would recommend also very informative. Did the economy tour coffee and cake included... More

So we turned up to the APT rail on very sunny and fine day on the west coast in Queenstown. Probably best part was the locomotive and the living beast that is was. Staff were very good and informative. Story and Commentary was very good during the journey. Train gets a good rattle up on the flats and pulls quite... More

When planning our holidays it is usually me that makes all the arrangements then hands them over to my husband for his input. He noted the train journey as something he would really love to do. As we were only staying in Queenstown for one night and we would not be there until around lunch time we booked the 2.15... More

We booked a Heritage afternoon trip from Queenstown and were really pleased when we were put into the carriage with the outdoor balcony along with the rest of the travellers and we still had plenty of room in that carriage due to the small number of passengers, about 16 of us in total. Great to be able to use the... More

We took the train trip from Queenstown to the half way point and return. We chose the more expensive cabin that came with all food provided. While it said morning tea and lunch it was actually more than this. A course was served between each stop. About 6 in all. Great commentary. Wonderful scenery. And a chance to see true... More

Everything about this railway is professionally done, from the booking system, ticket office, through to the trains, carriages and the service and commentary during the ride. We did a half day trip from queenstown to dubbil barril and back. The previous day we had been in strahan and seen the setup there. Queenstown is definitely head office! Not sure which... More

Hello Tim, thanks for riding with us and for sharing your thoughts on your experience - we are delighted that you enjoyed it. Each of our journeys is different, and each has its charms. You took our Rack and Gorge, which featuers (as you say) the Abt Rack and Pinion system to haul the train over the very steep Rinadeena... More
