The Oberlin Heritage Center is an award-winning small museum and historical society in Oberlin, OH. Visitors can tour the Monroe House (1866), Little Red Schoolhouse (1836), and Jewett House (1884) while hearing stories about Oberlin College, the first co-educational college in the nation, Oberlin's historic efforts to end slavery, and the local discovery that ignited the aluminum industry. Stories are told within historically-furnished buildings and visitors of all ages can write on slate boards, ring the bell, and try walking on stilts at the hands-on Little Red Schoolhouse. Visitors can also hear stories about abolition and the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and Oberlin's unique history while touring the town on one of several history walks. Visitors wishing to tour the Oberlin Heritage Center must be accompanied by a guide, so please be sure to check our online calendar for tour times. The Oberlin Heritage Center is open year round and our offices are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Researchers and family historians may also wish to set up an appointment to visit the Resource Center, where we have city records, oral histories, genealogical information, and more.

I took a walking tour with someone from the Heritage Center. It was very interesting...Oberlin truly has a past to be proud of as they have regularly pushed the boundaries of societal norms for the good.

Whether you have only a couple hours or all day...Oberlin is a really cool town and the Oberlin Heritage Center is a must on your places to stop. I've been here 4 times now and with the different docents you get a different perspective of the history of the two homes and one-room schoolhouse. Don't miss the change to take... More

The Oberlin Heritage Center sits on campus in the center of historic Oberlin, Ohio. OHC owns four buildings: the Monroe House, Jewett House, Little Red School House, and a late 1800's barn. Tours are available through the first three. In each of the tour buildings, docents teach the history of Oberlin and bring to life the men and women who... More

It is a very well-done trip back into Oberlin's town and college history especially its role in the underground railroad. One visits 3 buildings, two homes and a one-room school.

This is the Arts Bldg. for the local university. Here variant displays and certain classes are held for many students. This day was an open-house, showcasing many past student's works, many NFS. The issue here was the artistic talent show cased challenged many classic artists tastes and standards. Many were not of a 4 yr. caliber, but were left quite... More

Thank you for visiting Oberlin, but I'm afraid there is some confusion about your review. The Oberlin Heritage Center is not the place you visited. The Heritage Center is the local history museum and includes three historic buildings. We are not part of the college or a place where student artwork is displayed. If you have questions, please feel free... More

This is truly a wonderful historic tour of the early beginnings of a small town. It is a completely different perspective on the Underground Railroad and women's acceptance in an academic world. Early settlers had such a great vision for the future. We had a wonderful guide who is very knowledgeable about the beginnings of Oberlin and the surrounding area.... More
