The Johnston Farm & Indian Agency celebrates 2,000 years of Ohio's rich history from prehistoric Indians to Ohio's canal era. The focal point of the peaceful 200-acre park is John Johnston--farmer, public official, and U.S. Indian Agent for western Ohio from 1812 to 1829. Here Johnston's numerous contributions to the growth of early Ohio and the settlement of frontier America are presented in a truly unique and beautiful setting. Guests may also enjoy a ride aboard the General Harrison of Piqua, a replica 70-foot-long canal boat. Restroom facilities and a gift shop are located in the museum. Open by appointment Mon thru Fri in April, May, September and October. Open to the public 9:30 to 5:00 Thurs/Fri and noon to 5:00 Sat/Sun in June, July, and August.

This house is maintained with such care and the docents were great at weaving stories including the young acresses. Jean first led us in some Irish songs which was very endearing. We were told we should not leave hungry and go for seconds but there was no leftover ham and the first portion was very small. Mashed potatoes (sort of... More

This was a totally unexpected surprise in early Ohio history. John Johnston and his family's footprint on Ohio history was very educational. This site has many landmarks of interest. Interests pointed our are: ancient circular earthwork, duties of a US Indian Agent, Ohio Canal System, 3 story farmhouse. This home which is almost two centuries old holds many authentic pieces... This is a great historical place to visit if you are interested in the early history of Ohio and the canal system. For the very low price of $9 or $8 for Seniors, it includes a museum, a guided tour of the Johnston family home, and a canal boat ride. The canal boat ride lasts about 35 minutes round trip.... My husband and I have travelled Ohio extensively, but somehow missed this unique much loved historic home. Well worth the admission price which includes the museum, a canal boat ride, a guided tour of the house and many outbuildings to explore. Guides were enthusiastic and spoke with easy knowledge..if lucky you'll get Marla in the house. 3 hours was not... More

The Johnston Farm is a great place to learn about the early settlers of Ohio. The canal boat is great. The museum is very educational --learning about the Indian Tribes who were first in Ohio.

This is a wonderful place to visit with passionately involved docents (one is writing a series of historical novels about the inhabitants!), a beautiful early nineteenth-century house, a compelling museum and visitor's center, and best of all a mule-powered canal-boat ride! Worth traveling a while to get to.
