This is beautiful place to take your kids to be in nature and play, stroll through the lovely gardens, have a picnic, learn about plants, or watch a performance. We only come here occasionally, but when it's not busy it's really quiet and pleasant. Even if there are people around, it's a large enough place that you can still find peace and quiet.

It is not a traditional hiking place although there are lots of places to walk. Walking trails are fairly short. It's very beautiful with various gardens to take in. You can even bring a lunch and eat at one of the tables. Best of all it's free!!

It most certainly did not look like the above picture. The roses were all gone after subjected to a virus, some died, others were removed out of concern for the spreading of the virus. There were a few walking paths.

Wooster is a unique town with an amazing number of highly educated people in a very rural setting.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not advocating for people to flock to Wooster because there is a culture there that is unique and extraordinary but not for Everyone. There is no Target nearby and many amenities require a drive. Even though recent federal administrations have tried to downplay exceptionalism in this country, this is an exceptional place.
This location is planned, executed, and studied by many different disciplines affiliated with The Ohio State University.
There are botanists, horticulturalists, and plant pathologists who study in this environment. When a tornado came through Wooster, some of the scientists were excited that they were able to study the devastation unencumbered by attempts to repair it.
For the Vast majority of us the Arboretum is just a great place to walk and envelop ourselves in nature.

Located just on the outskirts of Wooster is the Ohio State University Agricultural Research and Development Center, home to Secrest Arboretum. This free attraction is better than many arboretums & gardens for I have paid an admission fee to visit. The variety of plants/trees/flowers is amazing and the layout of the grounds was near perfect. Throughout the arboretum are tranquil nooks where sit, rest, and contemplate, as well as scattered tables & chairs with the gardens where you can enjoy a picnic lunch or beverage (no food or drink sold at the arboretum). There also are play areas for children to keep them from getting bored. You can easily spend the whole day at Secrest or do as we did -- split it up over 2 days. Our only regret was that the rose gardens were being renovated and not available for viewing.

What a beautiful place! We stopped for what we thought was a short trip and ended up spending over an hour. You could spend an entire day and still not see everything. Definitely recommend!

A year-round destination spot from the Beauty of Winter, Fresh Hope of Spring with its range of early bulbs to full flowering trees (the Apple Collection is my Favorite), Lush fullness of Summer, that the unique colors of Autumn.

Add the educational aspects of our history and the commentary of ongoing horticultural problems and the quest for solutions. This gives a compelling reason to visit several times a year to see the progression against diseases, the repair from storms, and a look at the ongoing studies to aid horticulture and animal husbandry.

We were too early for anything blooming, so it was disappointing after seeing how beautiful it can be. The walking paths were very nice, paved with some private areas to hang out if wanted. We need to go back maybe late April/early May for the full effect.

Good place to walk and have a picnic with many private table areas. Many places to go and you are able to stay away from other people.
