Fun to Boring

Gone is the "Grill" the ONLY lakeside cafe on Thunderbird. Not much remains but boring picnic areas.

Dirty Bird...that's what the locals call it...is a good lake in central Oklahoma. It's not crystal clear. Quite the contrary, visibility underwater is about 3 inches. Nevertheless, fishing is not a problem (with a license) and the wet and dry camping areas are adequate. There are plenty of boat ramps and the place is jumping on major holidays (so much... More

I have stayed and played in this park for almost my entire life. Camping here is very nice with hiking trails, fishing docks and swimming areas. There are also biking trails for mountain bikers. They have shower facilities and bathrooms that are kept clean and are not scary at night. I have always had a lot of fun here!

My sister showed me this lake while visiting her. There a some nice hiking trails and we walked around in the large trees surrounding the area. This lake is big and we were able to watch several people water skiing. A nice place for a picnic or camping.

We live very close and have spent a lot of hours in the park and on the lake. The park is very well kept and fun to visit. There is horse back riding. Trails. Camping. A marina.

An armed hate group called '12 Tribes" rented out part of the camp ground and policed the area, stopping cars. When citizens tried to go around the blockade to access the park, they were threatened with weapons.

Spent an afternoon listening to the water and watching the boats go by. Gorgeous sunset!!! The shore could have been cleaned up a bit but it was a really nice place to sit for a bit or quiet time.

This is a great place to camp, swim, water ski or sail. We enjoy sailing after dark enjoying the cool nights and the light breeze.

Our campsite at South Dam campground on Lake Thunderbird was lakeside and shady with a nice breeze. We stayed on a Sunday night. The camphosts were friendly and keep one of the cleanest campgrounds in the park. We use to stay on the other side of the lake but the fights, trash, and general lack of care aren't for us... More

Lake Thunderbird is our local lake. There are lots of negative comments out there about it and some scary stories about vagrants and weird happenings. But really, this is a great area to kick back and relax with your family. My hubby and I launch our kayaks here. He fishes, I paddle around and when I'm tired I ground myself... More
