Lots to see here

Don't think this just an art museum. Lots of cowboy / western artifacts along with rodeo and John Wayne collections. Great seasonal showings as well.

We're not into rodeos and not super-interested in the role of cowboys in the American West. Given that, the couple of hours we spent at the museum exceeded our expectations. Why? Principally because of the art and the crafts that are on display. Before visiting the museum, we were familiar with just a few artists who depicted the American West... More

Stopped by on way to Phoenix. Great museum and excellent exhibits, including an old west town. Had to fly thru in a little over an hour, if you have more time it is worth it. Some hands on Indian things for the kids and plenty of items to see, including excellent art and paintings. I would highly recommend. Been to... More

It was a great day, the weather was nice, and there wasn't a lot of people, so we had enough time to see everything on our pace

This has always been a favorite museum in Oklahoma City. I have now joined a book club which meets monthly and reviews books related to the West. Excellent books and discussions.

Our group of 6 was very impressed with the entire museum! My wife and I had been here over 20 years ago and we could not believe the vast improvements that have been made. Wow! It does not even resemble the old place. The building is about 3 times the size and has many more things to see. Plan to... More

Whether OKC is your destination or you're just passing through, you must make a point to visit this museum. It details the impactful role the cowboy played in expanding the West, the plight of many of the Native American Plains tribes and their invaluable contributions to the period, and how their combined histories have captured the imaginations of millions through... Western art and Native American art are of great interest to me. In this museum I found plenty of both. There were even three Maynard Dixon originals and I was introduced to a contemporary Western artist/illustrator, Tom Lovell, that I look forward to learning more about. Posted nearby many of the works were very informative biographies of the artists and... More
