This is a very well-designed small natural history museum focused on high desert flora and fauna. It is perfectly designed for families with small children (and those of us who love the outdoors) by encouraging and allowing outdoor exploration between exhibits. It's not a traditional zoo or arboretum -- most of the animals are rescues from injury or clueless humans... More

This place is much more than a museum. Along with displays there are live animals and birds, talks and tours by the staff, and at the sawmill homestead women who relive the times through their portrayal of period life and times. A wonderful place for all visitors. My group took a day off from skiing and spent the whole day... More

Perfect for a family outing. I've been going to the High Desert Museum since I was a child and it is such a joy to be able to take my daughter now. Don't leave without checking out the otters!

The High Desert Museum has been around for years and has earned the love of the community. They have exhibits that change multiple times a year and many exhibits that are constant. Plenty of animals native to the area and TONS of information about the history of Central Oregon. People of all ages will enjoy the visit.

The museum is an interactive presentation of the areas history. The care and imagination how the facts are presented is exceptional. Exhibits that involve the guests are common. Dynamic living displays that encourage guests to watch how the environment works with and without human interaction. It's a large facility that has many exhibits on its grounds that are historic reproductions... More

Otters are the highlight here. They are adorable and love to entertain especially during meal time. Liked the log cabin homes and what it would be like to live with a logging operation right on your property.

Exhibits and activities for the whole family. Although the museum is open year round, some outdoor exhibits and activities are closed in the winter

Great place. Lots to do for people of all ages! Inside and out exhibits. Place to eat your own brought lunch or a cafe with reasonable food choices. Tried their BLT wrap and it was good. My husband and I split for $8! Will go back. Couldn't get through everything in 2 hours. Reasonably priced to get in. $12 adults... More

Extremely good for couples, tour groups, families, classroom field trips - you name it. There's history and information for all + many hands on exhibits and period costumes during tourist season. This is NOT a tourist TRAP, but an educational trip about the past pioneers of the west and all creatures who live in the high desert region We come... More

Inside displays are so good and informative. Outside there are wildlife exhibits and well paved trails to travel. This is such a fun place. Grandparents, parents and children all seem to love the whole experience.
