Great Hike

We did this hike with our three teenagers. It leads down to a quaint little beach. It's a nice hike with several switch backs.

Moderate hike through West Coast forest. Distance is about 4 miles round trip to Heceta Lighthouse from the trail head on 101. Allow at least a couple of hours to appreciate the beauty. You have to watch your footing so if you hurry, you'll miss the sylvan grandeur. If it's warm, take water. And don't forget to give some to... More

This is a lovely hike to a gorgeous mostly secluded beach. It's not very easy to find though we found looking for Mile Marker 177 to be the easiest way (right off 101 so be careful should you cross the street!) Almost feels like Lothlorien in places for those LOTR fans like me out there! Hopefully your Fellowship will enjoy... More

This was a little difficult to find, you have to park across the highway at the China creek trailhead. Another review gave a location that was actually a ranger station up the road but we were able to backtrack and find it. It was worth it! I would call this a moderate difficulty hike. There are some areas that would... More

Road construction is nearly complete and both road and parking area are brand new asphalt. Parking is very limited and people don't think of others (someone parked two other cars in!). Traffic can be heavy so use caution and patience both in crossing back and forth to trailhead and in leaving the parking area. Having a spotter to help back... More

A nice hike with a beautiful beach at the end. Fine with kids, but is a bit steep with lots of roots sticking up--definitely a tripping hazard if you're not careful. The trees and moss were fun to see; it did look magical! Trail head is super hard to find, maybe a mile north of Heceta light house turn off.... More

The parking area for the trailhead is completely blocked by Oregon DOT vehicles while they are doing extensive road work on 101. We learned the hard way after waiting in the line for one-way traffic. You can get there via a Washburne State Park campground trail or via Heceta Lighthouse, both 3-4 miles RT with elevation. We had an older... More

The Hobbit Trail and Beach is a rewarding outdoor activity frequently mentioned in Coastal Oregon travel books and on travel websites. It seems longer than it's advertised 1/2 mile length (from trailhead to beach) because it involves a change in elevation: down to the beach from street-level and then back up. Also, there are steps and occasional tree roots that... More

There are many hikes to get to where we were but the main trail head is literally right across hwy101. Easy 1/2 mile hike down to the beach.

Located about 11 miles North of Florence on Hwy 101 is the Hobbit hiking trail. I have been here several times. It's a great place to hike and unwind. It's at least an hours hike depending on how far you walk. Beautiful, quiet, sunny location.
