If you visit Grants Pass, Oregon, or if you are going to be passing through, take the time to go on a Jet Boat ride! You will not be disappointed. The tickets vary in price for length of ride and/or if you want to do the breakfast or lunch that goes along with the price. I definitely recommend the shorter one-hour ride for the elderly or small children who are unfamiliar with water etiquette or are afraid of the water. My recommendation as far as dressing is light and casual, because you are almost guaranteed to get soaking wet. Denims are a definite no-no on this boat ride, as they tend to stay wet and get heavy, the wetter they are. Wear light cotton pants or shorts are even better. The Captains here know these waters and are entertaining as well. Give them a generous tip, because you will not be disappointed in their rhetoric, stories, or boating maneuvers. Wearing makeup and having your hair done for this excursion is a definite waste of time ladies.

There are few activities on a vacation that will compare to a Hell Gate jet boat cruise! From the moment you sit down you are made to feel welcomed and truly appreciated for being a guest. Our boat driver was entertaining as well as knowledgeable throughout the entire 2 hours. There is nothing like racing down the Rouge River at break neck speeds, then doing a 180 turn where a huge wall of water soaks you to your bones! The scenery is breathtaking, as well as the Bald Eagles and the assortment of wild life that you will see along the river Bank. There is a 4 hour tour that includes brunch or dinner which I highly recommend! The food is fantastic as well as the service. Book your trip soon as they tend to sell out quickly. Bare in mind, you WILL GET WET! Such a great time!!

This is the perfect company/clinic outing. We did the brunch with jetboat ride for about 35 people, we filled a boat. All ages enjoyed this so much, even two girls ages 3 and 5. The brunch was fantastic to say the least! This is worth every dollar, and appeals to most!! Our tour guide was hilarious. Thank you so much!! A win for all....

This is the 5th time i have done this and I was so disappointed this time. I was hoping to show some friends a great time but we got stuck in the very back row despite getting there an hour early to try and get in the front because I know from experience that the front is so much more fun. you can see everything so much better and get the most wet! we couldn't see much except for the back of people's heads and didn't get wet at all which is the fun part! the speed and the spins are so much more fun in the back. we were stuck with some grumpy old people who did not appear to be enjoying themselves. the lady next to my boyfriend kept complaining that his foot kept touching her foot but when you are 6'3 and crammed in like sardines it's kind of hard not to make contact with the person sitting next to you. The boat pilot was fantastic and did a great job! the brunch was a complete waste of time and money. they come around and bring food "family style" but bring tiny little amounts that you have to share with complete strangers at your table and it took so long for them to bring more that we basically ended up paying $75 per person for a biscuit, one slice of bacon and a tiny wedge of watermelon. One of my friends got a tiny scoop of horrible scrambled eggs but we asked for more bacon but by the time they came back around we had to get back on the boat....On the way back it was over 100 degrees but we barely got sprinkled with a little water. i was so disappointed after telling my friends what a blast this would be and it wasn't anything like I told them it would be. I have been on the dinner trip before, too and was hoping the food and service would be better for brunch but it was actually worse.

If concerned about COVID this isn't the right trip! The trip was fun, but concerning as people didn't wear masks, including the boat hand supporting the pilot of the boat. Once on the boat about 30% of the people removed or dropped their masks, although all signs, check in and the call we made assured us that masks were required for the ride. Even after a reminder to the boat hand to ask the pilot to announce or remind passengers to wear masks, it went unannounced! We took the 11:15 ride. As advertised for the fun on the river, not as advertised from a social safety perspective! I'd give it a 3 to average this out, but the lack of social safety awareness as a company was extremely poor.

This reminds me of a Disney ride . I wish it could not be so commercial and they could take people out who don’t want the food . It’s very expensive and feels very touristy but riding on the rogue is just gorgeous . Maybe one day they will just take people for rides and not force them to eat .

we had three generations on board, and everybody loved it.. thankfully it was a warm day, so when we got a bit wet it was just fine... The pilots are so skilled though they know when and how much water will be acceptable to the guest.. We took the dinner ride, out at 4pm and back by about 8pm or so, they also have a brunch ride, the food is served at their lodge which is on the Rogue River, a wonderful piece of property and a magnificent lodge structure.. more importantly, even though they were feeding several hundred people, the food was truly excellent. We sat down at our assigned table, there was water, iced tea, lemonade, beer and wine already there waiting for us along with a very nice salad, , and they'll refill them as you ask, the choices we had were ribs and chicken, which are served family style and both were really very good as were the homemade biscuits and the marionberry desert.. we were all quite taken back with how good it was, and boat ride was wonderful, saw eagles, baby osprey, wonderful riverfront views, etc etc, and the pilots know just how to make it a memorable ride. sure glad we took the kids and grandkids .. we'd all do it again... and again!!

Been holding off to write this review. We recently went down and brought our 21 month old and he had a blast. Biggest issue I have is the fact that they had absolutely no infant/toddler/children pfd’s. I work as a river guide over the the summers and we are constantly sizing all ages and all sizes of people. But to have absolutely no pfd’s for those ages/weight is irresponsible. Being a river guide we are always trying to bring extra materials in the case that something breaks or goes missing.
Things could be different if they sent an email explaining that they don’t have a pfd that size and that we need to bring that, however, nothing provided us with that information.
I’ve enjoyed Hellgate Excursions and what they provide. I just can’t accept allowing that they allow for a kid on a boat and not having the necessary safety for them.

White Water Rafting Along the Rogue River
I have tried white water rafting twice in my life. Once or twice in the Boy Scouts, once in West Virginia during foreign service training, and twice now along the Rogue River in southern Oregon. I have also gone tubing along the Natchez and Yakima rivers as a child and tried canopying, and rowing while I was in the Boy Scouts.
Among these various boating escapades, the Rogue River experience was the best. There are several jetboat/white water rafting outfitters. The best is the Hellgate Jetboat excursions company based out of Grants Pass. Grants Pass is an cute river town about ninety minutes north of the Oregon/California border, (one hour from Ashland, Medford, or Jacksonville) perhaps three hours from Portland, six hous from Seattle and perhaps 10 hours from SF. Grants Pass has a lot of wineries nearby and some decent craft beer breweries in town and one artisanal whisky maker, Sundance located next to the Hellgate company offices.
There are four or five different routes you can take. We did the two-hour excursion which takes you down the Hellgate Canyon hence the name of the outfitters. There is also a brunch and dinner option and a four day excursion as well.
We found the price was quite reasonable 35$ per adult with the military/senior discount figured in, and a suggested gratuity to the boat pilot of $5.00 per member of your group, so we paid $20 for the five of us.

We did the brunch on 8/26. This is the 16th time of doing one of their excursions since the late 80's. Over the years we have paid for our 3 kids, their friends, and my mother so we have spent ALOT of money at Hellgate over the years. Drivers are what make the trips so wonderful. Hayden did a fantastic job as our boat driver for this trip. Here is my beef with this time: We didn't leave the dock until 9:20 and returned at 12:45. How is that a four hour trip? If you added up every passenger on this trip (we had the biggest boat, Miss Grants Pass, with almost all adults), times a half hour of not being on the excursion at a rate of $167.75 for the 2 of us (taxes & fees included) that is a nice amount Hellgate got for doing nothing. Four hours should be four hours, especially if a good hour and a half of that is at the dining lodge. Be honest with advertising four hours and either do 4 hours or advertise as 3 1/2 and charge less. I hope this is not their new normal.

Not a question but an update. We were invited back due to my previous experience with the brunch. This time the brunch was hot and plentiful and that's good. The "gravy" was the same, soupy and bland, same biscuits. This is a wonderful trip, they just need
to fix their gravy, make proper biscuits instead of "drop" biscuits and serve all the food at the same time to make this perfect. In my humble opinion.

Yes, videos & Pictures are allowed. It is highly recommend that you have your camera and phone in a protective case since you will be on a boat. You are responsible for your own belongings if they get lost or damage or happen to leave the boat & end up in the water.
