Brian is the Owner and he cares about the experiences of his clients. Kiran was our instructor. We have 2 teenagers, both beginners. The beginner lesson was 3 hours -- 1 hour on land with special windsurfing board and then in the cove for practice. Kiran gave the boys great instructions and when they hit the water they both got up! They were practicing getting up, turning and how to manage the wind and the board. Brian also checked in on them to make sure they were getting the hang of it. It was a great day in Hood River!

My wife and I started kiteboarding a couple of years ago and have had lessons from several individuals in the Caribbean and at Hood River. Brian is without a doubt the best at helping us learn exactly what we needed to improve our skills. Too often previous instructors would give vague or limited feedback and we felt like we were left to learn from trial and error what works or doesn't. Brian was great at seeing what we needed to change and giving us useful feedback to make the changes. He also was really creative and good at helping us with balance and timing issues on land even before we got on the water. That gave us a good idea of what we were trying to do and some muscle memory, before attempting to do it on the board in the water.
If you want to learn with expert, helpful guidance, then Brian is the best!

I took my first ever kiteboarding lesson from Brian’s this last summer. I was a little nervous at first while driving from my home in Portland to The Event Site (the local kite beach) but that quickly passed as soon as I got to Brian’s. There’s a real laidback vibe going on down there that makes you feel right at home in Hood River’s wind sport subculture. My instructor Tom was very knowledgeable and was abler to answer most my questions before I even had to ask them. The half hour of dry land instruction really boosted by confidence and gave me a great deal of knowledge before I hit the water. Kiteboarding was a great experience and Brian’s is the place to go in Hood River!!

Must have been an off day for Brian. We had a full class and even though over half of the people had prior experience Brian went over and over the information on land. We ended up with very little water time and Brian struggled to juggle everyone on their boards. Seemed like he was overwhelmed and under staffed. His information was very good. The winds were not over challenging that day so did not understand why he kept us on land endlessly. The 3 of us have been competitive athletes and competition surfers. Wind surfer new for us. We reached out to Brian for an explanation and he never answered.

Was so excited to learn how to windsurf! To my disappointment Brian was very rude, Hannah, our instructor, was helpful but not very experienced. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was young. The equipment was old and low quality. Next year I will try another school in the gorge, I guess we'll see how it goes. The instruction didn't fit my learning style, and should have been more personalized. Disappointing experience at most.

Waited there for over an hour. Brian the owner didn't give us much attention. Overall It seemed that i was trying to sell something for him and not the other way around. I was Very disappointed and I left without being offered anything. Honestly, It does not seem he was prepared to offer a kitesurfing/windsurf class

Brian is an outstanding instructor. He led me (50 YO lady), my husband and two 14 YO boys--all of us 1st timers--through a gusty day where I always felt safe and supported. We had a blast! Brian taught us on land for 1 hour, including on a simulator where we stand on a board holding a sail and practice tacking and sailing. Then we went into the lagoon at the HR Event Space, where you can catch great wind and much of the lagoon is shallow. You can walk your board back to the starting area if you get blown off course (which you will, at first). Brian put in a LOT of extra time with us because he's committed to people leaving his intro lesson confident and really liking the sport. Amazing customized instruction. SUCCESS! I can't wait to get back out there tomorrow! We want lessons with Brian again. It's wonderful fun, a great way to be outside on the water.

Brian's instruction and commitment to safety and having a great time is unsurpassed. He has developed a style of teaching that is keyed to the individual. His knowledge
and skill has been developed over the years and he teaches all of his instructors his unique method. Whether you are learning to kite or windsurf or simply want to SUP Brian's is the best on the beach. You will get dry land instruction before you ever hit the water. This is key to developing confidence and the relaxed and positive attitude that is the trademark of Brian's.

I stopped in to Brian's trailer to discuss wind and site conditions. Brian suggested a "ride along" lesson and hooked me up with Justin. I spent 3 days kiting with Justin. He simply kited next to me and and used the headset to give me little hints here and there on kite position, winds behind and outside of the island as well as body position, transitions, etc.... And that was all I needed. I ended up doing 6 more sessions that week alone and have gone multiple times around the country w/o a need for any more help. I can't recommend Justin enough.

It is a rare talent to be good at what you do and be able to convey that to a learner; Brian does that. I have never had a clue how to do a water start when windsurfing and after a morning with Brian, I was on track.
While I was doing that, the kids (12 & 10) learned how to SUP and had a good array of boards to choose from.
Thanks for a great time!!
