Well worth the climb to the top! You get a great sense of the vastness and terrain of the Gorge from here. Quiet. Awe.

The spring wildflower displays draw thousands of hikers each year. But this Rowena Plateau offers so much more than a hiking area. This basalt plateau projects right into the path of the mighty Columbia River and was a major buttress against the fury of over 100 massive Ice Age Floods, that scoured the Columbia River Gorge 12,000 to 18,000 years... Easy hike for the whole family. Great view of the gorge and Columbia. Time it right and see lots of wildflowers.

Only the plateau trail was open at the time we visited. I was unprepared for the amount of wind we encountered, but the view was worth it! This is a great place for views of the Columbia River with wild flowers in the foreground.

If you wish to experience Oregon's wildflowers in spring, head for the Tom McCall Nature Preserve in Mosier. It's easy access by car, even if you are not a hiker or good walker. Best time to go is mid- to late April

Visited April 18th. Spectacular display of wildflower but upper trail closed unti May 1. Don't miss this place. One of the most beautiful places on the planet for 3 weeks a year.

Timing is critical here so you catch the wildflowers at their peak!! Plan to be there between late March and Mate April. Great hike to the top of Tom McCall point if you're looking for a good workout. Watch out for poison oak!

Plan to make multiply trips in the Spring and early Summer. Beautiful wildflowers bloom at different times. It is also very beautiful to see the rolling hills across the river in Washington as they turn from green to brown velvet. Hike out to the edge of the cliffs and just gaze. Don't forget to close your eyes and just listen.... More

This is great for kids or folks that don't want a strenuous hike. The views are stellar and if you go in the Spring you can catch the wildflowers at their peak!

We've done this several times and if your lucky and early in the season, the wildflowers lovely, but this is a straight up and down trail. The views lovely but the trail is rough and very steep.
