We had no idea of the Chinese history in this area. This store had been retained in its original state with all the items from the era when the Chinese were a large population in the region.

Having the state park system oversee the building and provide access is a real plus. While the museum exhibit housed in a small modern building is very informative, the true impact is felt when taking the tour of the actual store/living quarters. The tour is...More

Amazing mercantile store and insight into one of America's first Chinatowns. Hard to fathom that this was one of the original places to get medical care in John Day!

This is a time capsule back to the 1940s ...very excellent visit! This was during the eclipse and it was packed - but the staff had planned ahead and it was very organized. Well worth it!
