Superb collection of rocks from around the world! Of particular interest were the local Thunder Eggs available from the ranch and the Oregon obsidian and petrified wood. Large pieces available.. The owner and nephew were pleasant and informative. They have a tough job putting up with demanding customers. Be nice to them and they will treat you well!!! Fair prices!!

This was our 6th trip in a 45 year period to the ranch. Although you can no longer dig your own eggs, there are piles of pre-dug eggs available in the rock yard. Rough materials from all over the world can be found in the yard. PA huge selection of re-polished, split geodes are for sale in the shop. We picked up some blue bed thundereggs and Richardson sander and polisher this trip. The sander and polisher were to replace our Lortone lap polisher

As a geologist, I am also up for rock shops. This is probably the best rock lot in Oregon and it has many interesting rocks. However, it seemed that the selection of rock, while diverse, was not fresh - as if the rock selection had been around for a while. The ranch is out of the way and it seemed that there was not a lot of new material there. Rare or semi rare specimens were few. Still it was an interesting stop, particularly in that they sell cuttings from their rick saws, which make for some clean cut rock face specimens that you could shine up and display.

Alas…..I am sad to say that the time has come for the owners to seriously consider getting out of the retail business dealing with the public. In general, all the people working around the place were sullen and appeared to consider all customers as a major pain in their backside. The lady that covers the cash register was so bitter and cranky, my feeble attempts to carry on a cordial conversation were ignored and it was downright uncomfortable. I made the mistake of asking why they quit allowing digging and I got a 10 minute tirade about how awful people/the public were and the horrible things that the public did. I was amazed at her apparent loathing and animosity towards the public, and it surprised me that she would continue to deal with the public in a retail setting when she clearly had such a low opinion of them. We purchased a rock tumbler and supplies from her, and we barely got a thank you out of her. We tried to ask some questions, and she just turned her back on us and walked away. Needless to say, we won’t be going back, and hope that this family decides to go back to cattle ranching business and sell their rockhounding business to people who recognize that it really is a “people” business.

This is a rock hunters dream! Plenty of raw material outside, beautiful polished goods inside.. we let the boys pick whatever thunderegg they wanted, plus many other treasures. Worth it. We were hesitant cause of some bad reviews but it really was a wonderful experience. Love, light and laughter!

I'm absolutely astonished at the bad treatment I received there this morning (9/4/2020 ) when I drove in pulling a travel trailer I didn't see any place, not only to park but to be able to turn around. The only place I saw was a driveway next to the run down white house that is next to the office. I was able to back my trailer into that driveway and I parked there, very much out of the way of everything. I headed to the office and read the notices that are posted around the door, nothing is/was mentioned about parking with a trailer. I did see a notice saying that I needed a mask to enter the office. I returned to my truck and grabbed a mask and headed back to the office. I got about 20 feet from my truck when the owner ( John ) came out and started yelling at me for parking there, not asking me just yelling. I of course said sure, no problem and went back to my truck. When I pulled out I asked him where I should park, he yelled " anywhere, just not there. At this point I realized that he was really upset, so I told him to calm down , that I would park anywhere he wanted me to. What you cannot see is a small grass area around the corner on the road , so I drove there turned around and grabbed my mask and went back to the office. When I got there he started in on me again, about reading the posts that were around, 5 or 6. I said that I had read all of them but didn't see anything about where to park a trailer. He then told me that I had walked in there like I owned the place??? I honestly have no idea what he was talking about. I have described every detail as to what had happened so far. Then he told me to leave the property, I said no problem and started to walk back to my truck. I turned around and said to him, I do have a question, I asked him what was the reason to close the digging to the public? He told me it was because of people like me that didn't follow the rules??? This whole time he was still yelling and very angry. Without saying anything more, I went to my truck and started to drive away, but he was still standing there staring at me. I rolled down my passenger side window and wished him a good day. This guy ,I believe , really has some anger issues. I will not be returning there. I do have a question for anyone reading this. Has anyone else see this reaction from him? I would really like to know, because this really dumbfounded me.

I used to come here every summer when I was a kid from ages 8-15. It’s been six years since I’ve been back and the ownership has really changed. Seems like the daughter and husband have taken over ownership from the older parents (who were really nice) and they’re a mess. My dad asked if they were allowing digging anymore (mind you we should have read the website before, but we were in the area, so we stopped by) the lady at the front proceeded to pretty much scoff and then yell NO and then said a few more rude words about how it had been closed for over a year. Didn’t mind this much, maybe they were surprised because we were out of the loop. Then when my step mom and I purchased a few things the lady was pretty rude again only telling us our total, not making eye contact, and ignoring us trying to make small talk. Needs new ownership desperately from my new experiences and from other reviews that I’ve read. The old ownership was great.

Get rid of the rude owners. I coughed into my mask and I was threatened and told to leave the property. I had my mask down to my nose because it was so hot I couldn't breathe. Mask was still on my mouth. He cussed me out and said if I don't wear my mask he wanted me off his property. The old man chased me out of the store and all the way to my car. I photographed him as I was leaving. He was very unprofessional in front of other families including small children. He will scold children that touch anything. Go to other more friendly spots in the area. Polka dot mine is better.

The owners are quite rude and have no people skills. While digging is a neat experience the interaction with the owners really put a downer on the experience.

I haven’t visited the ranch but heard good things about it. I went to their web-site and it says they are closed to digging, because of circumstances beyond their control. I tried to find out more, but no luck. Another recent post mentioned them being hassled by a lawyer but no details.
