About
We are a friendly, family owned and operated office offering premium ocean sport fishing charters for Albacore Tuna, Rock Fish, Halibut, and Salmon. Rock Fish trips are available year-round, but Tuna, Halibut, and Salmon keep us very busy from May through September. We do not overcrowd our boats and have a maximum load of 16 fisherman for Rockfish, 12 for Halibut and Salmon, and 10 for Tuna on our two large boats. Private parties are welcome to bring more people. We run two twin 43ft. Deltas, the Crackerjack and Gracie K, and we also have a smaller 37ft. Delta named the Spindrift that can accommodate fewer people. We're located on the south side of the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport, Oregon.

We got our limit on fish, both rock fish and lingcod. Captain and deckhands were super friendly, helpful and patient. We even got to see a whale! We’ve done charters in several different locations and this is by far our favorite. It’s worth the 10 hour drive to do it again.

An outstanding fishing experience! Captain Mike and First-mate Robert on the Miss Raven were terrific fishing guides. We these fellows were kind, very attentive and certainly put us on the fish! We caught our limit of Rock Fish and Cod and also took home 12 Dungeons Crabs each! We fish a lot and have fished on dozens of charters around the country. This was a great experience and inexpensive. There were several children on the boat and everyone caught fish and took home their limit!

The best charter experience and we’ve done several over the past ten years. People are very knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone got to catch a salmon and most got at least one keeper. We caught three between the two of us.

The rockfish was not cooperative that day but the crabbing… boy oh boy! The 14 crap pots were half full after about 3 hours of soaking. I heard we had 229 keeper crabs but had to throw 30+ back bec we are only allowed 12pp. The whole crabbing experience was pretty amazing!

My 8 yrs old grandson got so sick and they were so nice about. He threw up all over inside of the cab and they gave me a roll paper towels and Lysol. They caught fish for him and let him reel them in.
He came home with 3 fish and he was so happy. It was worth the trip.
I would recommend them to anyone.

Great trip with my sons and son-in-law on the "Cracker Jack" with Captain Jack and First Mate Dylan. Caught our Rockfish limit within 1 1/2 hours of leaving the dock. Had to throw several more back after we switched to lingcod. Added on a couple of lingcod for a very nice day of fishing. Helped that it was a very calm day.

The weather was beautiful for our second fishing/crabbing charter with Yaquina Bay Charters. 12 fisherfolk on the boat was perfect for Brian, the friendly and helpful deckhand to handle. BUT. Last time we chartered, the crab pots were dropped the night before for a long overnight soak. We limited with 12 crab each. This time, however, the pots were dropped as we went out to fish, for only a 2-3 hour soak. Only 2 crab each. Very very disappointing. Especially when we got back to shore and found other boats with crab limits! Next time, we will ask about the crab soak.

Went out with the Spindrift. I had gone out with this boat a couple of years ago. I went in and tried to edit that review, somehow I am not able to do that here it seems which is too bad, as the experience this time could not have been any more opposite than the last trip on this boat. I have become aware that things on these boats can change, and a crew change is a big deal at times or can be. The following is in relation to a trip I took on 1/26/2022.

What I will say is that this trip was a night and day difference of experience from my other review. The front office is now at the Newport Marina Store, which is a great thing, you can get last minute baits there, leads if you want, sandwiches, drinks, etc. I found the staff at the store very attentive and courteous, and easy to deal with in getting things set up to go. I had booked on another boat, the boat I booked on originally was not going to run, so they asked if I wanted to go on the spindrift with my party of three. I was hesitant, as my last experience on this boat ( 99.9% related to the deck hand and the treatment of myself and my party by said deck hand) was not the best. We did go ahead and book again, hoping for a change. What a change! read the below. My own opinion as always of course, your opinions or experiences may vary on any given day, this is just a recollection of the experience that myself, my best friend, and my sister had on this boat on this day and with this company.

We did book, went on Spindrift with Captain Jerald, and acting deckhand Travis. Both are very relaxed, very professional and courteous. It is amazing how much difference a good deckhand makes on a boat. As many times as I have gone on these boats, I should know that. Travis is extremely courteous, very attentive. worked hard for everyone on the boat. My sister was with us, from Texas, she has no real level of experience on a boat in our Pacific Ocean, he did not lose patience with her one time, ( I have seen others lose patience with a new to this type fishing fisherperson) but he was happy to help her with all of the various snags and tangles that someone new to this type fishing gets into, helped her get her fish off, the whole nine yards. The entire mood on the whole boat from the minute we got on it was great.

Captain Jerald is excellent at putting you on fish. We ended up with limits of rock fish, with a few exotics in the boat, and had two and a half hours to spare to go target ling cod and play with the crab. We ended up on the ling, A lot were on small size due to time of year and or other factors out of anyone's control, but we did get in some very large ones, not the captains or deckhands fault we could not keep the things on the hook to get them in the boat. Too excited and yanking I assume, as it has been a while since we went out and we all had the fever..... I even got a very nice sized Cabezon ( wrong month to keep, but oh so fun to catch)

The boat was happy to accommodate when I requested back of boat at corner so I had a couple of good spots to grab hold of if we got in any waves, ( older but not out of the game yet, lol water was smooth and my back and body were in a good mood so I did not end up holding on to the rail much thankfully) they had zero problems with it which made a much more comfortable trip. I do use my own gear, so it is also nice to have a bench there not only to sit on but to sit gear on while fishing if no one else wants the spot.

Could not of asked for a better day, or a better crew, (Jerald and Travis) or boat (Spindrift) I would highly recommend anyone looking for a good boat to go out on to give this one a shot I personally I fish many of these boats, many times a year, and while I cant do it every time I do try to write as many reviews as possible on the experiences to help others choose a good vessel and have a good experience. ( trip advisor does not allow multiple reviews, for the same business, which in the case of a charter company makes no sense in my opinion, as they have many different micro- environments in the form of each of these boats and captains and deckhands, each boat is its own experience)

The captain put us on the fish, and kept us there on this day. Boat mechanically in great shape. No smoke, fumes, excessive noise, mechanically all in great shape. Runs smooth. Safety and the standard safety talk were excellent, they went over everything very well prior to departure, life jackets, all the standard things you hear, all explained very well.

Back at dock, the cleaners at the fish tables were very professional, quick, and did a great job as well. I end up wanting my rock bass scaled, headed, gutted, they did this with zero issue or complaint ( of course your gonna pay more for this service as it takes more time, but I have flat had some other places tell me straight up they would not do this for any amount of money) .

I did not crab, but , the boat has an electric pulley system. For any considering crabbing, there are only a couple boats in the entire Newport fleet that I am aware of that have these, and they make all the difference in the world for someone who is not in their prime, as pulling a 100 pound crab pot off the ocean floor to the boat by hand with a rope and a pulley is not a lot of fun ( at least for me) . This makes it easier for everyone to be able to participate , sort crab, etc, you can help coil the rope, put the pot in the block, can assist with sorting male from female if you know what doing, and still get to be a part of it. I think everyone on the day I went came home with approx 10 crab each for the people who participated but I did not personally count.

If you crab, when back at dock, they have the pot right at the table, they will boil them right then and there, and once boiled, they quickly immerse them in chilled water. you can take them from there, or pop open right there and eat with a soda or beer from the store on your tailgate while you look at the bridge and view if you wish ( what I would have done had I bought in on the crab)

All in all, a great experience, and I hope this review helps someone who is curious and looking for a good outfit, boat, captain, and deck hand to fish with out of Newport Oregon. Look for my other reviews.

My wife and I took a 10 hour halibut/bottom fishing trip on the Spindrift with Capt. Jerald and deckhand Travis. There were 11 fishermen on board and the weather and seas were excellent. We started with about four hours trying for halibut, but they just weren’t biting. So, we moved in closer to shore and tried for bottom fish. Bingo! The action was fast and furious. Everybody caught their limits of sea bass and three of us caught lingcod. Mine was barely a keeper! Some of us a paid for crab pots that had been placed in the ocean the day before. Plenty of Dungeness crab was in the crab pots! Sadly, my wife and I were seasick for 3-4 hours at the start, but overcame it when we started catching bottom fish!
We couldn’t have asked for a better crew! Jerome knew just where to go and Travis took care of all of us and tended to us like family. They made the trip fun and well worth the price of the trip. I highly recommend this crew and boat for your trip out of Newport, Oregon!
