Even though it was very rainy during our stay over the Thanksgiving week, it was always a pleasure to enjoy seeing the fleet, in harbor and going out between the jetties and through the bar. The bar was quite rough due to the wind and rain. We always enjoy staying in Newport and go there often.

We drove down to the sea lion caves and there were no sea lions. Then we figured out that they were all at Newport! About mid-way down the main harbor-side street you will find a deck that takes you out over the platforms the city put in for the sea lions. There are also large rock breakwaters out in the... More

We didn't plan on spending hours shopping but did after we snagged a four-hour centrally located curbside parking space at 1:00 pm that we were loathe to relinquish until we had had dinner at 4:00 pm. Guess what? Maybe because of the rainy weather, by 4:00 pm, there were lots of parking spaces. By then we had visited the barking... More

A walk around the Newport harbor is fun and interesting...in varied ways. You can shop for souvenirs, eat at the original Mo's or go more upscale, you can skirt around crab crates and watch the sea lions. Or you can walk around the working boats...you can buy what is in season. But it's fun to look at the boats, big... More

Feels like a bayfront, SMELLS like a bayfront... it must be a classic bayfront harbor! Not crowded and crazy like harbors in bigger cities and low on the tourist trap counter. There are great restaurants here and fun shops. Make sure and go watch the Sea Lions barking at each other for the best sun bathing spots on their resting... More

Love the Newport Bayfront. A real fishing port with classic old boats right out of Miid-Twentieth Century. Sea Lions barking, gulls wheeling and screaming in the sky, and the gorgeous Newport bridge framing the setting sun. A bit touristy on weekends and mid-summer, but otherwise more a working area then touristy.

Always boats coming in or out and sea lions barking off the jettys and local docks are a home for them! Don't take little dogs down by the floating sea lion dock, one slip, and the poor puppy is a goner.

Lots of great things to see, good food to eat, bars to discover. Problem is, parking is at a premium during peak months. The city has some surface lots, but does a poor job on signage or promoting them so no one is aware that these exist. To make it worse, employees and even owners of bayfront businesses take all... We just finished watching the series Deadliest Catch Dungeon Cove on the Discovery channel and went on a treasure hunt of sorts to see if we could find any of the boats, captains or crew members from the show. We found the REDEMEER, LADY LAW & WINONA J. It was a blast combing the docks searching for boats we felt... More

We stumbled upon the Newport Historic Bayfront as we were looking for a nice seafood restaurant for an early dinner in our travels from Yaquina to Florence. Found Local Ocean Seafoods on Bay Street on Yelp and decided to give it a try for a dungeness crab. (Meal was delicious!) We arrived in Newport in the rain so went straight... More
