Great place to try to catch crabs… might not be legal size but fun to see crabs in your castable foldable trap with just 10-15 minutes wait. Used both fish carcass and chicken and both will catch red rock and Dungeness crabs.

Go during a slack tide as the water flows by too fast and it will carry your crab pot off the bottom. We found going an hour before and after a tide change is the best. There are a lot of people fishing for crabs so I think the legal ones are very hard to find. The ones just below the minimum size get throw back and find their way back into someone else's pot. We used a throwable pot but people use the ring pots as well as the square pots. We used chicken as bait.

If you are interested in buying fresh seafood, head to the docks. We brought a bunch home with us. While they were preparing our seafood, we watched 4 seals right off the dock.

Been to this pier a couple times now over a few years time. First visit had Sea Lions nearby but that was later in the year. Most recent time in early summer had much smaller population to view and you had to know where to look for them at.

Promise them if they eat all their lunch, they can go see the sea lions. They are big, smelly, boisterous and very funny. Kids of all ages love them.

Great shops and restaurants and views of the bridge and fishing boats. Mo's has great clam chowder. The boardwalk is nice to sit and drink your morning coffee.

Take a walk on the pier and crab if you want. This is a hot spot to do crabbing from. If you don't want to crab you can still walk out there and watch others crab.

If you like to crab, this is the place you want to be in Newport. You can either rent the crab rings locally, or bring your own. Bait is available nearby. There are plenty of rock crab, and a lot of Dungeness. There is a cleaning station under the bridge.

Grandsons and I walked down to the pier from the RV park one evening. Had so much fun watching the crab fishermen pull in their pots and many were more than happy to share their stories with us. Next time, maybe we'll bring our own crab pots.
