This is the most gorgeous place i have ever camped at. It’s so clean and well maintained. The water is pure and clear. Bring your family and your kayak for an ultimate experience!

I hate to write a great review of Waldo Lake because it is such a wonderful quiet place I really don't want people to discover just how amazingly beautiful it is. Quiet, calm beautiful lake. Pristine. Start early and walk around the lake for the best way to experience it! Oh, and go in August. Otherwise the mosquitoes may carry you away.....

We have visited this lake many times. It's one of the deepest high mountain lakes in Oregon, and it's in the top three clearest lakes in the world, with views of upto 100 feet deep. The lake is motor free, and makes for a great kayak, sail or canoe venture. There are a number of hiking trails. Mosquitoes can be a problem in the spring and early summer. This isn't a fishing lake, since there is no underwater vegetation for them to eat or hide in. They quite stocking this lake over 20 years ago, due to poor fish habitat.

We drove around this lake on a road trip as we were just passing through. But definitely hope to return next summer. This lake is simply beautiful. The water is a great shade of blue and is clear and cool. We visited a resort there and would like to go back and stay. This is well worth a trip to see.

We have camped all around Waldo, but tend to like the North end camp grounds a little better. They have a nicer access to the lake I feel.
The water isn't too cold in the summer. The trail around the lake is a great adventure if you want to hike it, or bike it. Plenty of huckleberries if you know where to look. Other trails to take you any direction you want to explore. The only bad thing about Waldo is the mosquitos. Very bad in June and July. Not too bad in August, and minimal in September. There are trails for horses nearby, and some peaks you can go summit. Or just sit back on the beach and relax and watch the sun set.

We kayaked here. Unbelievably clear and blue. Campgrounds are OK. Best to visit after August 15 as the mosquitos are gone by then.

Waldo Lake, less than a two hour drive from Eugene, Oregon is a pristine lake nestled into the Cascade Mountain range. Three campgrounds on the shore offer quiet, peaceful places for families, friends and couples. The lake, second in size to Crater Lake, allows no motorized boats, giving kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. full access. Numerous trials lead around the lake and into the surrounding forest. For a quiet get away or a weekend on the water, Waldo Lake, is a true Oregon jewel.

I've been to Waldo Lake too many times to count. My family visited Waldo Lake four times this summer (2015): twice canoeing, once camping, and once hiking. The sun was shining every time we went and we saw no mosquitoes thanks to a dry winter.
The only slight disappointment was when we went camping as every spot in all three campgrounds (about 600 spots) was full and the sky was smoky. This ended up working out wonderfully as we canoed to the opposite shore and camped there, far away from the crowds. Everyone had a great time and we hope to return to that spot next year.

Go for day hiking, swimming, camping near the shore, of paddling your silent little boat. Late summer is the ideal time to visit because the hoards of early season mosquitoes are gone and the huckleberries are ripe. This is a pristine, super-clean high altitude lake at over 5,000 feet, with views of surrounding forested hills and mountains. We've made many trips here and love to return. No power boats allowed, very few fish, but it's the place to go for quiet and tranquility.

Ok, so is the Camp Host (male) a total psychopath exhibiting strong signs of Renta-Cop mentality (as described by Alison T)? If so, that kind of behavior is dangerous for all parties concerned. Thoughts from others?

Is there a place to get fresh drinking water at the North Waldo campground or somewhere nearby?
Written July 9, 2018
After asking a friend who has previously camped there, he said there was potable water spouts periodically every few campsites.
