If you want to understand the settling of the Portland area start here. A national park with funky hours, it has the grave of McLoughlin the Master of this station for the British and his Native American wife. It was his dissatisfaction with the British that made Oregon part of America.

You should do a little research before going, just based on what they told us if I had not already known who Dr. McLaughlin was I would not have gotten it from this tour, The fact that this is free makes me really love it! The house itself is quite boring it is just a box and lacks character and... More

We live close by and decided to explore our local sites. I'm really glad we did as we learned a lot about the early settlers and how Oregon City was founded. The grounds are really pretty in the summer and very shady. It is interesting to imagine the view they would have had before all the trees became so big.... More

This house and tour is operated by a history club jointly with the NPS as part of the Fort Vancouver unit. I'm really glad we took the tour here first before visiting Fort Vancouver because it really immersed us in the Oregonian history and the role played by McLoughlin in shaping the state. It made us appreciate the fort tour... More

My mother and I went and did the tour, they were very full of knowledge. The house's were taken care of and they were full of original and beautiful history.

Really enjoyed this... Wonderful History, graves on site as well. Nice that there is still some history right in the middle of town.

We took a tour of the historic home of Dr. McLoughlin in Oregon City in April, 2016. Our guide, Bob, was a fountain of historical information on this founding father of Oregon, Dr. McLoughlin, who first came to Oregon in 1829 while working for the Hudson Bay Company. Dr. McLoughlin settled Oregon City, started many mills and businesses in the... More

I went to elementary school in Oregon City, but unfortunately missed the field trip to the McLoughlin house. The day I went, the ranger on duty was none other than my seventh grade social studies teacher (so there's my bias). My guide was Bob Hill, whose family came over on the Oregon Trail in 1853. I am well-versed in Oregon... More

Learn all about the history of one of the founding fathers of the west. The house could stand some restoration but the history lesson is still good.

It is unfortunate that this home does not allow interior photography. They claim security but they have photos of their site on line. Restricted hours of two days a week makes it difficult for people to plan on coming. Very little was owned by the McLoughlins with the exception of the dining room. Lots of steps to the second floor... More
