This is more than a bookstore. It’s a coffee shop. It’s a social meeting place. They have all sorts of things for sale. Their children’s section is one of the best that I have seen. Check out the staff recommendation for books to read. It’s...More

I’m spoiled by 10 miles of books at The Strand in NYC, but Powell’s does not lie in calling theirs a city. Want to blow a paycheck on books? You can do that here in about an hour. We visited twice and didn’t see everything....More

Give yourself lots of time to wander the many rooms and browse the bountiful shelves. A bibliophile’s dream you could literally spend hours there. For as busy as it was the checkout line moved very fast, everyone who works there seemed very friendly and helpful.

What can I say that so many before me haven't? This place is impressive (and if you like books it's kind of like the Wonka Factory for you!). As I slowly roamed the shelves I found myself thinking of another topic or author that I...More

I’ll admit, I’m not really into reading books but was pleasantly surprised that I spent almost 3 hours inside the store! It was so easy to lose track of time just browsing their rows and rows of books. I definitely recommend checking out their Rare...More

When several Michigan friends learned I was in Portland, they almost threatened to flog me if I didn't go to Powell's. I'm so glad I took their advice, and not just because I avoided a flogging. My wife and I emerged laden with literary treasures...More

I hadn’t heard of Powell’s until the day I arrived in Portland. If I had know I would have brought extra luggage. This book store is amazing with so many new and used books. If you are a book lover this is a must visit.

Plan on coming early and staying a while. Tremendous selection of new and used books. And make sure to grab a map: you'll need it!

Love this pace. I am a supporter of local businesses, PDX people support Powell's, don't buy books on Amazon.

They have a parking lot! I also usually find parking on the street a couple blocks to the west. And, I often combine Powell's with a stop at Whole Foods, so I park at Whole Foods, go to Powell's, come back to WF and buy what... More
