I read about Powell's in my tour book from AAA. Walked from the hotel to visit it. Amazing so nice inside and a zillion books. Lots of gift items and the cutest reader glasses I've ever seen. I bought a cute funky pair for $12! If you ever visit Portland go to Powell's well worth it!

Anyone who has love for books should see the City of Books at least once in their life, even if only to get a look. You don't have to buy anything (although I dare you not to!) It is several very tall stories, taking over an entire city block in downtown Portland. The huge rooms are color-coded for different genres.... More

If you love books and who doesn't, you can't miss Powell's and you'll want to plan to spend at least an hour or more - it's an event unto itself. In addition to new publications, the selection of used books has you leaving the store with a stack of books for the same price of a couple new ones. Not... More

Powell's has the best physical inventory of books on the planet. If they don't have it, they'll get it and ship it for free. Knowledgeable staff and a good coffee shop too.

Powell' is book store, a real one. Their inventory goes well beyond "best sellers". The staff knows its job and is very helpful even when you don't know quite what to ask for.

This store has everything you could want, plus a place to read and have coffee (Portland has the best!!). It has a liberal leaning with books featured but most everything you want can be found and there is good help available. Give yourself plenty of time!

If you're an avid reader and visit Portland Powell's is a must see. Yes you can get lost in this place. It's like a museum. One room leads to another and another and before you know it, you're asking for directions to the exit. Books on things you didn't know they wrote books about. Parents-take you're kids. Careful though, they... More

If you visit Portland, a must stop is Powell's Books. If you love, or even just like, books, this is the place. It's easy to spend a 1/2 a day here. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's just a wonderful place to explore for grown-ups and kids. There's a coffee shop in the building and you're free to take... More
