We went there on memorial day weekend, the gardens are beautiful and the scenery is very calming. You can see everything is about an hour but there's lots to see around Washington park like rose test garden, etc...

Wonderful place to wander around, bit crowded when we visited (it was Memorial Day) but you can still appreciate the beauty and serenity created by the harmonious planting and layout.

We liked everything about this attraction from the winding, hilly pathways to the koi ponds and waterfalls, Zen garden and Bonsai demonstration. It was worth the $20 admission.

Surprisingly very much enjoyed by myself, hubby and a 23 and 16 year old! We walked the Rose Gardens first and than visited the Japanese Gardens.

This is truly an amazing spot. Many great places for cool photos and fun for just wandering around. Whole place is not stroller accessible.

I did enjoy the Japanese garden but did think the admission was a bit much for the size of the garden (it takes about 20 to walk through). On the flip side, it looks like they may be adding on and they do have many...More

We were glad to have visited the Japanese Gardens in Portland. But after so much hype, it was a little bit disappointing. The hike in the park to reach the Gardens is quite an uphill trek. You walk through the lovely Rose Test Gardens, which...More

We were with Susan, a volunteer docent. She was part of our great experience. Portland can be so proud of such a magnificent garden! We were there in the morning, to avoid the crowds.

Unsure of the route, but there are Trimet/MAX trains, bus, & trolley routes that well connect the city pretty much anywhere you need to go. Check the Trimet website for routes.

Hi Maureen - Great question! The Garden allows service animals, but, unfortunately, does not allow pets. We hope this helps you plan your visit.
