While in Portland, there are many things I wanted to see but because of my limited time I had to prioritize. For me, being catholic I definitely put this on the top. It is beautiful and peaceful. I purchased a ticket to make the trip to the grottos bonus shrines at the top. It is Marian shrine with many small... More

This is an exceptional place to visit! Growing up in Portland it was and is a must see. My husband was raised as a catholic. Our two kids were brought here monthly by their grandma. I especially enjoy this beautiful calming site at Christmas time.

We visited in December mainly to see the Christmas lights. It was raining lightly, so we wore warm coats with hoodie and boots. This is a walking self tour. You have to pay a modest amount. Mostly outdoors but there is a gift shop where you can buy hot drink. There is also a chappel where you could listen to... More

What a beautiful place. I am not catholic, nor religious, but I can appreciate the serenity and the nice walk. Came here early morning, pretty much nobody was around. I imagine they get busy for events and there is an elevator lift to the top section, of course you got to pay to use and thus see the rest of... More

Took our family there before Christmas and thought the light display was underwhelming - certainly not up to par with zoo lights! Although we enjoyed the singing, we felt a bit disappointed for our great niece & nephew who expected a lot more! Guess we'll need to go back on a sunny day to enjoy the whole grotto area.

The Grotto is a Catholic shrine dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God...that being said, it's also a place where EVERYONE is welcome to come, walk around the beautiful grounds (62 acres!!!), pause to take in the views, fresh air, lovely gardens and small shrines, listen to the birds, etc., ...or even take some time to pray! What I hope... More

A group of my family went on Christmas Eve & the place was amazingly lit up! The place had such a serene feeling while still being modernized, it has definitely been well crafted to do so. I am looking for a chance to go back during the summer during the day to fully take in the cliff sides before going... More

I thought this was beautiful. We walked the trials and looked at the Christmas lights. It was wonderful. The bathrooms were very clean. The sisters were very kind.

I thought it was okay but I'm not really a huge fan of Christmas. But if you like Christmas there are people singing carols, a puppet show, as well as concerts in the church. The area is really lit up and colorful which is pretty neat to see. If you're with a family or kids I'd recommend it as you... More

We took 3 children (and two adults) to see this event on Dec. 23. The lights are spectacular and we loved the concerts. The puppet show is really for the under-5 yrs. old group, so our 9, 10 and 11 year olds weren't impressed. It was REALLY cold, but we were dressed for it, as the website is very informative....
