I was on a work trip to Portland and this was recommended to us by a colleague. The vibe in the bar is lovely. It is a small, intimate affair with a lovely bar area and a great selection of wine and snacks. Both Mark and Stephanie (and Pinot) were very knowledgeable about the different wines, and they were extremely... More

I guess you're supposed to be in here if you're a bit of a wine buff, but we called in just for a coffee. All they had was espresso, no cream or sugar and it STILL cost 5 bucks. No thanks.

We meet Mark and Pinot, they were amazing hosts! We had two flights with a great description of the wines and their history and we were impressed with their knowledge and expertise with wine. This is a great alternative if you can't get to a vineyard.

My wife and I found this place while looking to have a drink before dinner. We both like wine, but not much about the process nor this region. We bought two flights of Pino Noir along with a cheese and salami plate...and our server, Stephanie, gave us a tremendous education and insight into the nearby regions, wineries, estates, soils and... Thank you for the review. Stefanie has been with us for just over a year now and certainly has grown into the role of a wonderful and welcoming hostess. She is always ready to learn more about wine and share what she knows. Hope you can come by again in the near future! Mark More

Tasting room is a bit snugg and unexciting. Doesn't evoke a feeling of family cozy winery nor the stylish tasting room, but rather an average mishmash space. Good thing is that you get to try local Portland/Oregon wine. Would I come back, no.

Hi there and thanks for stopping in. We are a cozy wine bar for sure, with just under a thousand square feet in total with the downstairs and upstairs mezzanine level. The tasting room is deliberately and thoughtful decorated in island cottage plantation style in a nod to the time I lived on the island of Kauai, as I always... More

Selection of Pinots was adequate but the prices and quality were questionable. Served by someone with very little wine knowledge. One of the glasses I was poured was from a bottle that was open 7 days. Don't waste your time if you like Pinot.

Mark P, Owner at The Portland Wine Bar, responded to this review, Aug 18, 2016 Well, I am not really sure how to respond to this review, but it does require some reflection and rebuttal. Wine is subjective, to start, not only in terms of taste, but price point as well. What one person likes another may not. What one... More

The place was small, the room was full when we walked in and, amazingly, one woman was handling it all. Can't recall her name but she proved to be convivial and knowledgeable. For wine tasting, my wife and I chose the premium pinot noir flight and our daughter chose a fruity white wine made from mangoes. The wine flight at... More

Thank you for your visit Rick. To clarify on the the Pinot noir selection, our intent indeed is to bring in smaller production labels that are not widely distributed or known. I "discover" new wines each week and am a big supporter of other small businesses such as my own. With over 700 wineries in Oregon and over 800 wineries... More

Mark is highly knowledgeable about local wines especially in a diverse region such as the Pacific Northwest. His bias towards this region is a welcoming change from other places that favor heavily towards mega producers and anything California. We especially liked tasting wine from his own winery. The bar is very welcoming to groups large and small and Mark is... More

This is a very small wine bar on Portland Square. The proprietor is very knowledgeable and serves wines from Oregon and Washington. He also has a menu of tasty nibbles! Be sure to say hi to his black lab, Pinot!
