Nice library, with library activities; story time, lectures and such. They provide free pubic WiFi and comfortable seats so you can get something done while the kids get to enjoy story time.

You'll need to make a reservation to visit this collection of ancient manuscripts, maps, bibles, and other books that were the foundation of this public library in 1904. White gloves are provided for handling the items that are maintained in a controlled atmosphere to protect them from deterioration.

This is a beautiful, grand old library! In this age of computers you will still find many people use this facility on a daily basis. It opens at 10AM with people usually standing at the front doors to get in, An easy downtown location,

There were some great employees that helped with some Chinese Garden VIPs! Several spoke mandarin and really showed that culture and intellect are respected at the library.

MC Central Library brings out the reader in all of us. Their online system where you can create and queue and request titles for books (both paper and electronic), audio and CDs is such a great resource. I love my library.

Even if you don't live in Portland or can even check out books at this library it's a great place to enter and look at the nice architecture and colorful selection of locals filling it... More

As cities grow and change, they face the choice of renovating old buildings or constructing new ones. This library building originally opened in 1912, and underwent a major renovation in the mid nineties. As a usable library, I suspect the choice to stay in the old building comes with challenges.
