This library is beautiful from the outside. Its old architecture inside and out adds to the environment of the library. The variety of books is extensive. The inside is spacious with rooms on either side of the staircase. They even have rare books room. There are a fair number of homeless people that come through, not a big problem though.... More

If you are downtown, stop by the Central Library, which was beautifully preserved in recent years and is still the crown jewel of one of the most used library systems in the country. Check out the Friends of the Library store near the main entrance.

Central Library is absolutely gorgeous. You could spend hours inside just looking around at all the amazing things they have to offer, the different wings, amenities. The librarians working there are super friendly and helpful. It's just so amazing.

This is a great place both for residents and for short or long term visitors. The architecture is decent and the high ceilings, molding, and history are interesting. We learned that there used to be a caretaker apartment on the third floor in the area under the clock - where the music collection is now. There were also 14 janitors... More

The Multnomah County Central Library is located in downtown Portland right next to the Max Light Rail and also along the Portland Streetcar route. So it is easily accessible by public transportation. The Library is housed inside a 1913 building that is on the Register of Historic Places. The building has a total of three floors and is lofty and... More

Nice library, with library activities; story time, lectures and such. They provide free pubic WiFi and comfortable seats so you can get something done while the kids get to enjoy story time.

You'll need to make a reservation to visit this collection of ancient manuscripts, maps, bibles, and other books that were the foundation of this public library in 1904. White gloves are provided for handling the items that are maintained in a controlled atmosphere to protect them from deterioration.

This is a beautiful, grand old library! In this age of computers you will still find many people use this facility on a daily basis. It opens at 10AM with people usually standing at the front doors to get in, An easy downtown location,
