This is a rugged and interesting looking black steel bridge - we found this to be more interesting once we heard that it was a vertical-lift bridge where the lower level can be moved higher and the higher level too. We walked on the bridge...More

This bridge looks so mechanical because it has double decks and vertical moving each. Low level is for Amtrak and pedestrian, upper level is for TRIMAX light rail and cars. While you stay Portland you often use this bridge. There is no city such a...More

I just like the looks of this funky, very old bridge a lot. Like one of the other reviewers, I missed the convoluted path to get from a street bike path down to the east esplanade and rode across the bridge in the car lane...More

So I get this one confused with the Hawthorne bridge. This is the double decker with the bicycles and the runners (many of each) on a separate level beneath the cars. Lots of runners it is part of a jogging trail. And there are cyclists...More

Pretty central so you're likely to see it if in the area. Certainly a piece of history and an icon for Portland. Sadly I didn't find the walkway across. Better signposting please.

It is an oldie, but a goodie. Looks like it was made with an old erector set. It is fascinating to look at. It service trains, cars, bikes and pedestrians. The Steel Bridge Riverwalk is part of a great series of riverside walking paths on...More
