Gilbert House Children's Museum (formerly known as A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village) is a private nonprofit children's museum located in downtown Salem's Riverfront Park. Founded in 1989, Gilbert House provides innovative and stimulating educational experiences which spark children's natural curiosity. The Museum's mission is to "inspire children to learn through creative play." Riverfront Park in Downtown Salem is a jewel of a park. It has a great carousel, Amphitheater, walking trails and open spaces for picnics, reunions or just walking your dog. No visit to Salem is complete without hanging out at this park for a day.

My children (ages 5 & 7) were given a membership for Christmas by their grandparents! They LOVE going! (Sadly, I do think that in a year or so my 7-year old will have outgrown gilbert house, but we will enjoy it while we can!) There are so many different rooms with different activities & even though it feels like we... More

I volunteered each year on MLK Day. The place is so well designed it's often teeming with visitors (but easy to get in). Lots of interactive activities, learning based fun things to do.

This place is great fun for kids and has innovative things to do and see for sure! We were disappointed they took the giant bubble room out but, there are still many things to see and do both inside and out. We went here for a birthday party and had a lot of fun. There are tons of kids so... More

We took our granddaughter on a Friday afternoon. Kids around 6 would have fun, much older and probably not. The themed rooms are fun but the older the child is the quicker they become bored and move on to the next room. The outside play area is fun but best to visit on a warm day.

We have 3 kids under 8 and they love the Gilbert House. It provides a couple hours of fun in a secure place where they can each run around and play with the activities. Our annual membership also provides access to a number of other museums including the OMSI in Portland

This museum has converted several old houses into a museum with each room a different theme. Many of the displays have been donated by local companies and organizations. There is something for all ages. It is also very educational.
