We wandered in here on a slow summer day to pass the time and had no expectations. So I was really surprised at how large the museum is and also the quality of work they display. I went during a Royal Nebeker exhibit and was taken aback at how moving and stunning his art is. Such vivid and rich imagery!... More

This gem of an art museum is located in the former Pacific Northwest Bell building across the street from Wilson Park. A very nice setting frames incredible art located inside the doors. A must see for art lovers and the curious alike. Tastefully arranged, the exhibits compete with museum's located in much larger cities.

Little jewel in downtown Salem. Great Russell Childers exhibition on now. Free admission on Tuesday. Sweet soapstone squirrel at the entrance!

I enjoyed taking a tour of this museum on a beautiful September day. The museum has an emphasis on Pacific Northwest art, with a very good representation of Salem and Willamette Valley artists. The museum person who led our tour provided valuable background on several of the artists. We had at least one artist in our group who herself knew... More

We were meeting people at Willamette and parked nearby this small museum, and decided to look in afterwards. It was wonderful. It costs very little, I think perhaps $5, but it was Tuesday and Tuesday are free. So I spent money in the entrance shop instead, as it had a very eclectic collection of books and the work of local... More

Well worth 2 to 3 hours to comprehend the art and artifacts. It hosts a wide range of exhibits, from ancient civilizations to contemporary artists. The Native American exhibit was very well done. While some of the modern art was not to our taste, it was well documented to reflect it's significance. For its size this is a very good... More

I can't believe this museum isn't better known. As someone who grew up in Salem and now lives in New York, I actually try to stop here every time I'm in town because it's galleries are a pleasure to visit and everything is thoughtfully curated. If you're even a little interested in art and happen to be in Salem, definitely... More
