Really interesting huge piece of Machinery used in Mining. Stop and walk the trail around it and read the explanations of what it was used for.

We visited the Sumpter Valley Dredge on an Alfa Romeo tour through Eastern Oregon. Interesting to see a big boat and crane in the middle of this desolate part of Oregon, and then the miles of "rock tailings" left behind after the search for gold....More

This old dredge has been restored and has quite a story to tell! Hard to believe it only took three people to operate and that it ran 24 hours a day, 363 days a year.

I've been coming here for 45 years. The dredge used to be half sunken and in horrible shape. We climbed all over it as kids. Now the have done a great job of restoration. Great bit of history.

We wouldn't recommend a long drive to see the dredge although there are other attractions in the area. It's an authentic old dredge partially restored, yet authentically rustic. Well worth a stop if you are in the area.
