This is a unique attraction that one does not often see. Amazing that the dredge was operational up until 1956. A bit of mining history that is different from digging into the ground. The person on duty was very nice, very friendly, and very informative. The site was very clean and well maintained.

If you like historical or old mechanical things you will really like this. You can only tour the first floor as they say its too dangerous up above. There is a lot of machinery that has been removed over the years but lots of it is still in place. Watch the video in the visitor center first as they have... More

We reached the Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge by steam train, the turnaround for which leaves you with a nice amount of time to visit this curiosity. It’s a bit like a paddle steamer but with dredging attachments at either end. It’s a testimony to the inventiveness of gold miners that they came up with such a machine, chomping its way... More

We drove to Stumpter to see the dredge and the old town. There were no parking signs on both sides of the street, most of the business were closed and for sale. Not much to look at and we were very disappointed with our visit.

This place is cool if you wanna learn about gold & historic facts. During the summer & Sumpter Flea Markets they have informational tours on the train.

The kids loved it, great tour and really interesting place to walk around. Dogs cannot go into the dredge itself, it was to hot to leave him in the car so we just switched places and walked him around outside.

What a wonderful and informative experience. The volunteers are very friendly and very knowledgeable. The children I had with me ranged from 92 14. They all had a great time!

My husband loves to watch Gold Rush on Discovery, so when he saw there was a gold dredge in OR, we had to stop and check it out. It is such an unusual and interesting piece of history. It's amazing how huge it is and well preserved. The buckets are big enough to hold a person! There is a small... More

After reading the book "Skeleton Creek", our 13 year old son asked if we could visit the Dredge. How do you say no to a request like that? The Dredge was just amazing. As you are driving the road to get to the Dredge you pass mounds of dirt and rock that the Dredge spit out when panning for gold.... More
