We did an early evening ride to the falls and it was very enjoyable. Still warm, but low sun and an easy bike ride on a paved trail until the bridge. After that it was a wide packed dirt trail... Still easy riding. The deals...More

Our family likes this hike on days that aren't too hot or too cold. Beautiful scenery as you glide along the Deschutes River. Start at either end of the trail and work your way back from whence you came.

We love this hike/bike ride. You can do either. The wild flowers at the river in the beginning are spectacular.

The falls are beautiful and this is a family friendly activity. The path is wide and shaded along the river.

This is a lovely 0.5 mile (one-way) walk for adults and a great adventure for younger children. The trail is wide and well maintained. It is dirt trail so it can be dusty. It is suitable for strollers and is used by bicyclers. There is...More

Another popular stop to visit Benham Falls. Very picturesque without too much work (great for kids). They can also bring their bikes as the trail is flat and wide.

It is HOT in central Oregon in the summer! Do this hike early in the morning or after 6pm for the cool weather.

We rode bikes from Sunriver with two kids (7, 10) and grandparents to the Benham Falls trailhead. It's all paved trail, quite a bit of shade, and relatively flat. It was a fun ride, and everyone made it with no problems. We walked up the...More

We decided to try this route this morning with our 9-yr-old son. The trail is pretty flat and a nice smooth ride. It's about 7 miles each way from the lodge and the last half mile is dirt. The only issue is that there are...More

Although we tried to walk the trail last week, there was a train stalled at the crossing, so we were unable to complete our plan. However, we did take trails from the Lava Lands Center up Lava Butte and had beautiful views... More

I would not recommend trying to visit the falls in the winter. The roads are not plowed for access to the falls. Years ago I tried and almost got stuck in the snow.

Mostly it's popular enough that people keep dogs leashed. In the offseason I often let him off.
