There’s no better place! The local elevation, pitch dark surrounding and crystal clear air make it perfect for star gazing. You won’t be lining up for one telescope. The Oregon Observatory is the largest astronomical viewing facility in the United States. Feast your eyes on far away galaxies. Recognize the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. Witness a meteor shower. Get a glimpse of globular clusters, nebula and deep space binary stars.

Heard lectures on constellation mythology. Then looked through 10+ different telescopes to see the moon, Jupiter and its moons, Saturn and its rings, nebulas, galaxies, and the Milky Way. Everyone talked about the visit the rest of the trip.

We've watched this facility evolve from a simple star gazing venue to a fantastic center for learning about the universe through the eyes-on experience of seeing it through powerful telescopes. Knowledgeable astronomers give lectures on selected events while the sun sets, followed by a tour...More

My teens and I went to the observatory one evening while staying in Sunriver. I thought it was a bit pricey ($10 a piece, so $40 in total). We didn't realize the program started with a presentation and we missed the first part as we...More

Make sure and check out the nighttime astronomy program at the Observatory. They have several telescopes set-up to view the night sky with plenty of enthusiastic teachers.
