Great info on the dam...

I thought the visitors center at the dam was very interesting with great photos...It also has a little book store and souvenir shop.

The views are gorgeous! Whether checking out the adorable little town full of cute eateries and well-maintained "mom n pop" lodgings, or the great photo ops of the surrounding mountain ranges in the distance, this is a lesser known gold mine. The historical significance of the dam is quite interesting also. The whole area from the Washington side to the... More

We are two seniors, roadtripping through Oregon and Washington. We stopped for about 30 minutes here and viewed a short film and looked at exhibits. It was informative and fun, but we are pretty easy to please. We could not tour the dam because they only do that periodically and not on the day we were there.

OK, this really just a dam. It is interesting because it is located in such a beautiful valley. Also if you look to the south (Oregon) side you will see these piers that stick over the water. When the lock is open, the water is rushing like mad. These piers are used by net fishermen....pretty cool...

You have a nice view of Columbia river and Washington side from the Visitor side. By the time we went we were informed that the AST conducted tour isaround2PM . So we have to get satisfied with the Exhibits and view of the Dam and Generating Stations from Outside. So if you want to vista the Dam first check the... More

This was a nice stop. There is an overlook on the WA side that offers a great view. For those that are Geocachers, this is a FWEE dam. The dams in the NW are managed by a variety of agencies. Based on the agency it determines the ease of access. This damn is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.... More

We went to the visitor center and found that it is closed from Labor Day opening on Memorial Day. During open days there are tours of the dam and many interesting displays at the Visitor's Center. Check their website or visitor information for days of operations. There is a great view of the dam from the Visitor Center parking lot.... More

Ruining the Environment , one of 9 dams on the Columbia river this year was especially bad for the fish , with sparse rain fall and very little snow pack the river was at the lowest level I ever have seen in 3 years , the fish were dying because of the excessive heat and most fishing was shut down... Nice view of the Mt. Hood and pretty cool seeing the water come out of the dam. There also is a little park.

The free dam tour took about an hour and was very educational. Took an open air tram to get closer and to go inside the working part of the facilities. Tour guide's name was Amber T. Who was very good at explaining how the generators and fish ladders work. Lots of visual displays. Toured the generator room and from the... More
