Don't hurry, stop at every turn-out- there are breath-taking views every where. Don't waste a lot of time finding parking at Multnomah Falls- go to the remote parking. We took the back way from The Dalles to Rowena lookout back to I 90- spectacular.

Plan on about a 3-4 hours to explore the drive. Lots of great picture opportunities. It is a must do if you stay in the Portland area. Stop at the Bonville Dam and take a look around, very impressive.

Drove the scenic byway from Troutdale to The Dalles. Too bad the part around Multnomah falls was still closed due to last year’s forest fires (this is in July 2018). We missed that as we didn’t feel like taking a shuttle bus to it from...More

A must on Pdx adventure list. Close to town and an amazing drive. And drove it many times and still cannot stop to admire the beauty around.

Even if you don't want to hike, there are plenty of lookout points and lots of things to see from the parking lots. Beautiful views and, despite the destruction from the wildfires this past winter, they've done an amazing job of maintaining the parks and...More

This is one of the best things about the Gorge , the beauty of the road and the scenery is the best. I belive parts of this road are closed now because of the fires last summer. Once it reopens im sure it will just...More

It’s a great roadway we have been there many times. Unfortunately part of it plus some of the hikes are closed due to last years fires. Check before you go

Beautiful scenery on a stretch of Columbia River highway, sitting a huge Vista house with beautiful surroundings that everyone going this way should stop by.

A detour along the Historic Columbia River Highway (Hwy 30) is highly recommended. The views of the Gorge are worthwhile and a lunch stop in Troutdale at Shirley's Tippy Canoe restaurant along the highway would be rewarded with a surprisingly pleasant experience.

Unfortunately many of the trails are closed because of the idiot kid who started the forest fire. Bridal Veil is open, but you can see some of the burned trees on the way.

Buying food in Portland before you get into the Gorge would be a good idea as there are not that many places on the scenic highway. I would not recommend the Tippy canoe, but check it out for yourself, overpriced and not... More
