Get off the highway and take the old road. The views and vistas are awesome. Stop at the smaller waterfalls where traffic and parking are less a problem but just as lovely.

Stay off of the interstate and enjoy the slow pace and take in the breathtaking scenery. Little towns, lovely views and a stop at The Vista House! I wish we had more time to explore it in the eastward direction!

It is a beautiful drive, from the Troutdale part, stop by the river to enjoy the beauty Oregon has to offer, then climb up the mountain and savour the views from the view points, visit the different falls.

Whether one is just passing through or a lifelong Oregonian/Southwest Washingtonian, this drive captures the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge perfectly. It is a treat any time of the year, but fall and spring are awesome when the falls are most active. No words...More

Beautiful gorge. As pretty on the Washington side. Lots of easy (& not so easy) hikes. Nice little towns. Live a few minutes from & still go all the time. Love the million dollar bathroom (nice free museum & views).

The Columbia River Gorge is an awesome place to visit and explore. A must see is Multnomah Falls and a great way to see it is to travel the old highway. Worth the time and energy, you wont be disappointed.

The Washington side has less trucks but is a bit slower. Try going down both sides! The view from the "Bridge of Gods" is worth the $2 car toll!!

This was a GREAT drive. Lots of spots to stop and enjoy the scenery and views. There was also lots of waterfalls trails accessible from the road. Don't miss this drive.

Buying food in Portland before you get into the Gorge would be a good idea as there are not that many places on the scenic highway. I would not recommend the Tippy canoe, but check it out for yourself, overpriced and not... More
